For those wondering about The Timing...I doubt Dems would have sat on this and sacrificed Mills.
Maybe we should have believed the first woman, and the nazi tattoos and all the homophobic and racist shit he said and he was a fucking mercenary for crying out loud instead of wanting a white man savior so much we were willing to abandon our ideology to promote it.
There is credible reporting our right now that Chuck Schumer personally called Graham Platner and threatened him, it's not anything to do with Platner and this reporter claims he was told this even before the NYT article. Two things can be true at the same time Graham Platner could have done this (he claims innocent and hasn't been convicted in a court of law) and the democratic party orchestrated this whole thing. The woman herself said she wasn't coming forward until this lawyer Hunt convinced her. I believe that if it wasn't this than the establishment Dems would have created something! The establishment Dems are way more comfortable with Collins in office than with an economic populist in office. If they try to jam Janet Mills into the Democratic nominee Collins will win again and we might not control the Senate and I think the establishment is way more comfortable with that then jeopardizing citizens United and any check on their money!
Who? No names. Just some guy who told him a thing he heard. Another nameless bro defending a bro. Bros before hoes, yes?
With that inside track he determined platner is a really good guy. And that someone, either another bitch or the establishment somehow got to his victim and made her come forward just to hurt the movement.
You are defending a rapist. You are the reason women don't come forward.
Just out of curiosity what's your cut off on SA? First one's free. I get that. But after that?
I don't doubt her accuser and didn't think that was the point of the article. The point of the article is to show what establishment Dems are willing to do to stay in power. Like I said I believe her and I think Platner self medicating PTSD with alcohol he probably has 0 recollection which in no way excuses what he did. The point is the establishment Dems are trying to paint the entire progressive movement with one brush. The gravy train is in jeopardy off stopping and for way too many elected officials that's the real threat not maga!
Platner should suffer the consequences for his actions but his supporters should not.
Most of the comments here are from people who aren’t living Maine politics. I live in Maine and if you want to understand why Maine Democrats supported Platner despite all his problems, the most recent article from this excellent Substack in does a terrific job of explaining it. Find her at the Substack:
SHAY’S COGITATIONS:A DETOUR FROM BLACK GIRL IN MAINE
Pragmatic decisions were made to defeat Susan Collins, whose votes have and continue to destroy the lives of millions of women and fellow citizens. And has alleged corruption and adultery accusations of her own.
I'm so glad I finally ventured to this post and found this link. I too am a Maine voter, and my experience in the non profit field and my personal life is that the obstacles to having anything like a nice life have become so extreme that yes, hope has been removed. Thanks for sharing this. I like Shay's writing and didn't know she was on substack.
I think a lot of the commentary coming from the country at large doesn’t understand the particular dynamics of the situation in Maine, and why people were supporting an imperfect candidate.
Obviously, Platner turned out to be a true scum, and lied to us all. But I get the feeling some people imagine that the GP support was a bunch manosphere types, who were all cheering on his bad conduct. When the truth on the ground was so different.
Why not? They supported a Nazi tattoo sporting, racist, misogynist, homophobe, mercenary, drinking to blackout when he wasn't getting belligerent, blue collar cosplayer, with until a few days ago one credible SA accusation with receipts.
They excused all the that away. None of that mattered. No lines were crossed.
Why? Because he said he'd changed and mouthed the correct shibboleths.
They were sold a shit candidate but went all in anyway. That says a lot about his supporters.
That said, he fucked his supporters over. Not some uppity women. Not the establishment. Him. All on his own.
Part of him suffering the consequences is his supporters are going to suffer for him.
Watch: he'll be turning tail & joining the manosphere, because, you know, THE ESTABLISHMENT DROVE HIM OUT OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND HE HAD NOWHERE ELSE TO GO. 🙄
Just to be clear, the people who refused to vote rather than vote for Kamala Harris did not do because they thought the process was unfair or that she didn’t deserve it or that she was unqualified; they did it because they were assholes… or maybe they did refuse to vote (or threw their vote away) for one of those reasons, however, in any case, they’re still assholes.
I don't think the woman is lying I've said that over and over again but 2 things can be true at once Platner can be guilty and this could be can be the establishment Dems driving him out
While it is in a way sad to see what initially looked like a vibrant candidacy so spectacularly flame out, at least Planter can take solace over the fact that he is now in the lead to be the next Republican presidential candidate.
Platner was always a preposterous candidate who obviously had a closetful of about-to-drop shoes. How did anyone get past the Nazi tattoo — so Hegsethian! — let alone all of his flagrant women issues?
Just so you know how this even happened, 27-year-old New York political consultant Morris Katz met Graham Platner — where, nobody has yet told us — and “within a few minutes of talking to him, I was like, ‘This guy owes it to the country to run for Senate.’” After a few minutes of conversation, Katz concluded that this random oyster farmer didn’t merely seem promising — he had a duty to the nation to become a U.S. senator.
Predators fiercely embracing victimhood is one of the most ridiculous and repellent spectacles out there.
Never mind Graham, there’s a vacancy for an MP for Clacton in the UK. The last guy to hold the job also queened out about “the Establishment” as he resigned. (The speeches are remarkably similar, were you taking notes?) Furthermore there is a booming oyster industry both on the coast and further inland on the Thames estuary, which has been going since at least Roman times.
Once again, I find the timing of all of this suspect.
Yes, Platner should FOAD. But this should come out before the primary. Was someone at Politico sitting on this story for weeks? If the mainstream DNC wanted to destroy Platner, why didn’t they do it before the primary?
Instead, this came out at just about the last moment for Platner to withdraw and the Dems having to scramble to find a replacement. Now we have to hope they don’t fuck it up.
So who decided to drop this story now and not last month?
I don’t absolutely know if it’s true, but I read that the New York Times knew about this when they dropped their article in May, but the woman didn’t want to go forward with it then. In the New York Times article they said they had “unsubstantiated more serious allegations.“
But apparently she changed her mind for the politico interview.
I agree, it’s all suspiciously timed. It might’ve been some pressure from the Dems to drop it while he could still get out to potentially save the election. Or something more nefarious. Who knows? Hopefully we’ll find out someday.
She was originally going to be a named accuser in the NYT article that dropped a while back. She withdrew her story before publication. In no small part because of the guaranteed backlash from accusing a popular white man and because protecting the movement was important even if he's a scumbag.
Predictably though, the one woman named by the NYT was dismissed because bitches be lying.
So she ultimately decided that standing with another victim was the moral thing to do even if the movement got hurt
I agree. I think a lot of people wanted to believe Platner was the real deal. I had my own doubts about him. Mostly that he would turn out to be another Sinema or Fetterman. At least we won’t have to find that out now.
After the first allegations came out, I had already figured that he was toast and Collins would be cruising to another come from behind win.
I still wish his downfall had happened before the primary because now we’re having a repeat of 2024 where the democrats have to scramble to replace a candidate and somewhat start a new campaign from scratch with only a short time until the general election.
I'm so frustrated with this. We didn't have a real primary because the National Dems put their thumb on the scale by recruiting Mills to run. Once she announced, no one else was willing to run. So we had a choice between the very old and frankly not very popular governor (who has been excellent!) or a flawed candidate who had worse and worse news coming out about him.
So, I'm relieved we don't have to have a Senator Platner, and now it's just up to the Maine Dems to put forward someone who is exciting. That's the challenge here.
I think I spent about one minute with the back of my wrist to my forehead wailing “why do the Republicans get away with this and we don’t?” before I shut the fuck up. And that was BEFORE the next rape accusation dropped. Go feed your oysters, asshole, you’re lucky you’re not In jail
You're forgiven your one minute lapse. Too bad so many other people still haven't shut up.
I'll say it again - we're in real trouble when we start grading on a curve against Rethuglicans. Fighting like hell doesn't mean we have to become what they are.
AHHHHH
So. Ratfucker.
Just a small suggestion. The person the nominating convention decides on should be vetted like they're applying for a security clearance.
It'd make things a lot easier on everyone.
Platner should have run as a Republican against Collins in the primary. He's got all the qualities they love.
Why does it matter if The Establishment got her to come forward?
HE IS STILL A RAPIST.
With nazi tattoos. And a penchant for spouting racist shit on the interwebs.
I mean...why are we defending this guy even now?
Back up the conspiracy, my guy.
Show your work.
Your work had better be more comprehensive than her receipts.
Conspiracy morons are the fucking worst.
I'm sorry that's wrong it's fractured line by Olcott here's the link decide for yourself https://nicholasjorcutt.substack.com/p/you-were-allowed-to-vote-you-were?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=2noeld
GTFO out with that nonsense. A random platner fan wrote a blog.
Flawless. No fucking notes.
Did you not read the article he has an inside man
Who?
Fuck all the way off with that shit.
I don't doubt her accuser and didn't think that was the point of the article. The point of the article is to show what establishment Dems are willing to do to stay in power. It's "every effing day" on substack and his work I can see if I can put a link on hear. He's very respectable
Platner should suffer the consequences for his actions but his supporters should not.

SO different.
Pragmatically speaking, where's the line on rape.
The first one is free for popular white bros. I get that.
What's the limit after that though?
And Platner should suffer the consequences for his actions, but his supporters should not.
Why not? They supported a Nazi tattoo sporting, racist, misogynist, homophobe, mercenary, drinking to blackout when he wasn't getting belligerent, blue collar cosplayer, with until a few days ago one credible SA accusation with receipts.

TLDR Bitch set him up?
I don't think the woman is lying I've said that over and over again but 2 things can be true at once Platner can be guilty and this could be can be the establishment Dems driving him out
Again. Why's it matter if they "drove" out a rapist? If so, we should be congratulating them for doing so!
But Jen, had you considered that "they", or maybe (((they))), are out to get him? You had not.
I mean, sure, whichever they did it didn't do it anywhere else, in any of the other races so far, but still. It was them.
While it is in a way sad to see what initially looked like a vibrant candidacy so spectacularly flame out, at least Planter can take solace over the fact that he is now in the lead to be the next Republican presidential candidate.
IS WE LEARNING?
If the candidate has a cod dangle, spend a lot more time on background checks.
Look what we made him do!
Platner was always a preposterous candidate who obviously had a closetful of about-to-drop shoes. How did anyone get past the Nazi tattoo — so Hegsethian! — let alone all of his flagrant women issues?

What's this Katz cat's deal? Ego of a kingmaker?
Katz worked on Mamdani’s campaign so that must have inflated his head tremendously.
Call it the James Carville syndrome.
Never mind Graham, there’s a vacancy for an MP for Clacton in the UK. The last guy to hold the job also queened out about “the Establishment” as he resigned. I'll have my oysters roasted please, like they do in NOLA!

We already know. No conspiracies involved.
Weird how you can know things that are true once you stop making shit up.
The victim.
That’s a shame. The NYT story would have been stronger with the second victim and Platner would have been gone sooner.
Instead, Platner got to dismiss the first woman’s story by pointing to the fact she works for Susan Collins’ campaign.
Now we all owe her an apology.
Right up front. This isn't a hit on you. Or a condemnation of any kind.
I do find the framing of that interesting.
She, of course, is a horrible person because she worked for Collins. Her judgement is suspect.
He, on the other hand, is blameless for having a relationship with her. His judgment is not questioned.
I don't think people even notice it anymore because it's the air we breath now. It certainly shapes how we think, act, and react though.
I agree. I think a lot of people wanted to believe Platner was the real deal. I had my own doubts about him. Mostly that he would turn out to be another Sinema or Fetterman. At least we won’t have to find that out now.

I still wish his downfall had happened before the primary because now we’re having a repeat of 2024 where the democrats have to scramble to replace a candidate and somewhat start a new campaign from scratch with only a short time until the general election.
(Not everyone does, some of us were pointing out that she had receipts so her political affiliation was irrelevant.)
Thank you.
You mean, besides Graham Platner?
I'm so frustrated with this. We didn't have a real primary because the National Dems put their thumb on the scale by recruiting Mills to run. Once she announced, no one else was willing to run.
