As people have been discussing this and other idioms, in some cases I don't know the answer. I know I have also heard wheelchair-bound, which is no better, and maybe worse. But I don't know how to explain that someone is sometimes dependent, and sometimes not, but that also that the wheelchair does not rule their lives, and more to the point, that they are much more than that as humans.

for one thing: none of this shit was important to him during the regular session. he's a fence sitter so on the fence he sat. even as late as May 26 he was telling Lt. Dan to stop taking things hostage just because it once again became apparent that Lt. Dan's agenda was not near as popular as Lt. Dan thought. Lt. Dan went so far as to say the quiet part loud about how he was trying to make the grounds for a special session by bottling up must pass legislation (like the Sunset bill for the agency that licenses all law enforcement officers in the state). Abbott called the idea that Lt. Dan could force a special session for his wish list "goofy" because it is.
but then on May 30 something weird happened: Abbott all of a sudden favored all this bullshit and said he'd veto the budget for the lege--which is really for staff both in legislator offices and nonpartisan agencies that support the lege like our version of the CBO, LBB. and he did. what a dick.
noteably, this wish list is very much the same as his opponents and you'd think he'd be spending more time distinguishing himself if he were really threatened. plus he has a YOOOOOGE war chest at TFG's endorsement.
he's also been polling around 70% with Republican primary voters. even if goons believe that he's not doing his job by personally slapping handcuffs on every member of the Texas House Democratic Caucus and these special sessions are a failure because of it, he may drop another 10 points.
another thing is: WHY ARE ALLEN WEST AND DON HUFFINES MAD AT EACH OTHER?! they're both weird free dumb assholes that were filing frivolous lawsuits with Sid Miller last fall over us getting an extra week of early voting. those two idiots are peas in a pod. Florida Man West bankrupted the Texas Republican Party, held a maskless rally with Alex Jones and was using his position to promote Qanon. Don Huffines is WEIRD--he primaried out a pretty solid Republican State Senator in 2014 and turned a reliably red gerrymandered district blue in 4 years. he also went on Rand Paul's Moscow Spring Break and he wants to withhold trade with Mexico--our largest trading partner.
besides, he'd probably not be okaybwith his 2022 voters dying and putting his already compromised circulatory system at risk if it wasn't for a higher office coming up in 2024. hell--even if he is not running for POTUS, he may try to primary CrusTed's ass.
Preemptive treatment bc his condition leaves him with diminished circulatory capacity, which is a risk factor. At least that's what my doctor husband speculated.
Lots of us here are plenty mad. It’s really unlike anything I’ve seen in the nearly 30 years I’ve lived here. There are at least 50 school districts in open rebellion against his ban against mask mandates, including in all the most populated cities.
I don’t know how this is going to translate into votes, but it’s clear he’s more concerned about getting primaried from the right. But you just can’t fuck with the health of people’s kids. Period.
