Different societies should have different standards. My sister has a theory that marriage was invented when people lived to be about 30 years old - so it worked.

I think there is an important relationship in the ages of the people involved. I would view a sexual relationship between two 16 year olds quite a bit differently than between one kid who was 16 and an adult who was, say, oh, 56.

I believe that rape is about power - not about sex. When one person is too young to make a reasoned judgment, and too vunerable to the power trip of an adult, that's not a healthy situation.

Finally, what's the rush? Today's teenagers in America probably have a life expectancy of 80 or so years. Start having sex when you're 18 and you still got 60 or so years to go at it. Is that so much worse than having 61 or 62?

Ah, so that's what Lisbeth Salander has been up to since those exciting days in Sweden. Should we check Morrissey for amateur chest tattoos?

"indecent liberties with a minor."

That's a new one on me. If you plan to take liberties with minors in VA, make sure they're decent liberties!

EDIT: It's "supervisory indecent liberties with a minor." So, make sure it's non-supervisory, and you're good to go.

If we're really lucky, Fightin' Joe will punch the special prosecutor in the face during court proceedings.

I fully realize I may be on some thin ice here, but I can't agree with "...statutory rape is not actually rape-rape...considering it as such denies young women their own sexual agency..."

I think there are stages in life where important decisions are appropriate. And, across the board (since that is the only way to make laws) appropriate limits to be placed on people.

Does not providing a minor liquor deny her (or him) "alcohol agency?" Waiting for a driver's license? Or?

I'm not trying to snark here. It's an important issue. But, as a former teenage and current parent I have no problem with statutory rape staying on the books. And the law being enforced.
