Who has the best shot at taking and holding this seat? Because Dems need the pickup, and while they're at it redistrict a few more seats here and in any other states where they didn't fuck themselves (sigh, California...). If you want to pass anything in 2025, or at least keep that creepy flaggelant Mike Johnson out of power, Dems can't afford any mistakes and need to take the House back.

The question with Suozzi isn't "will he vote the way I want on every substantive piece of legislation" but rather (1) will he caucus with Dems, so that Dems can decide what even makes it to a vote, (2) considering the Dems' overall makeup, plus who will run the Senate, and who is in the White House, what substantive legislation is likely to get to Suozzi so he can vote for or against it, and (3) there is no (3). So when we say "is he pro-choice enough" we have to think "what is 'enough'--what legislation is likely to come down to his vote when it makes it through the sausage-machine?"

And never forget what it feels like to have that smarmy Johnson smugly deciding not "what sort of abortion protections will pass" (because the answer is "fucking none") but "maybe you'll get a budget this year, if you agree to screw over Putin's enemies" because that's what we get when we don't hold enough seats.

The problem here is there is a much better Dem candiate, the guy who ran against George Santos, Robert Zimmerman, and is an ACTUAL gay man*. The real reason he lost that seat was the it had been redistricted to get rid of some Dem areas and add a very MAGAt part of Queens.

And Zimmermans did not camp it up like Kitara Revanche did.

That Zimmy does not appear to be running, I imagine it is that he is bloody fecking fed up with this shit and does not want to deal with the bullshit Santos-questions that the MSM would ask him and NOT FUCKING TALK ABOUT POLITCS AT ALL.

*not a dig, but do we really know if DeVolder and Co. LLC is/are a gay man or a gay woman or just the transubstantiation of shit into even shittier shit?

Also, Suozzi's an asshole.

so Bob Dylan is now going to run for a House seat after his Rough and Rowdy tour has ended ? ok I'd vote for him!

I actually just made another Bob reference below.

I was frankly suprised at the number of people I know who SHOULD know that who did not see that at all.

I wish that Suozzi would lay down his weary tune and just start sitting on a barbed wire fence and fuck off

Never seen "bromide" used this way before, only as a version of the element bromine. Bit confusing for me, lol

Well, he sounds okayish, especially for a district that voted George in 13 months ago.

I hate that it took the overturning of Roe v. Wade to do it, but it's amazing to finally see Dems stop tiptoeing around the abortion issue. Never thought I'd see the day when a female governor tells a Catholic male congressional candidate "you WILL support abortion rights or you don't run" and he says "yes ma'am" with no argument.

Fill the seat with a pinch-hit Democrat so we get the vote in the House. Then concentrate on a better candidate for the primary and November election.

I believe it’s an R+2 district? Or maybe it was D+2? Point is, it’s a swing district. Unless it gets redrawn (a solid possibility if the whole state redraws its map), Suozzi is a fine fit.

For all the love of this sentence "where Hochul lives as governor and Suozzi does not" and recognizing he is weak sauce he does actually know how the place works. Putting someone who does not need an orientation is a good call. That she was willing to do that after he was a shit is respectable.

But I do not know if he is actually chastised or just pissed off white guy. We do not have a culture that encourages white men to reflect and learn from their failures, rather we have a culture that encourages rage and revenge. Trump is the exemplar of this cultural failure mode.

Suozzi was in fact a good match for his district--not for the state as a whole. Taking on Hochul was ego-driven tilting at windmills, but should he stay in his lane (and drop the middle ground on abortion nonsense), I don't see why he shouldn't remain in Congress.

if "centrist" simply boils down to taking an imaginary position that's convenient for the candidate, then how is that any different from what the GOP has been doing?

I give up, what is the similarity between being overly responsive to polls and being committed to endless war, mass expulsions, theocratic autocracy, and full throated fascism?

IDK, Manchin loves those fossil fuel bucks, Nancy Mace is a vain liar, and Susan Collins is concerned.

turns out that the label means nothing or everything you want it to mean.

You made complete sentences, but they are utterly meaningless and fail to address my question. And blue is a color and also water is wet.

"taking an imaginary position that's convenient for the candidate" would be a vast improvement if Rs would stop doing things the electorate mostly hates, rather than doing horrible things and being allowed to lie about them.

You think licking fascists ass is cute or pure or something? You do not think other people's live matter? You find yourself amusing? What?

Oh nevermind, I do not even care. You are responsible for your own behavior.

Bagels of Doom's avatar

the point I was making is that people like to call themselves "centrist" as an excuse for being shitty.

the label has been watered down to a point of meaninglessness.

and to go back to the example from the article "anti-choice" is hardly centrist.

neither is Manchin's love for fossil fuels.

neither is Mace's lying

neither is Collins' concern.

it's vanity and nothing else.
