Guy Who Taught GOP To Call Democrats 'Sick Corrupt Liberal Traitors' Very :( About Mean Election

Trust in meOnce there was an evil genius -- not like this other guy who is in fact not an evil "genius" at all -- who was very good at this sorcery of "communications." With just some words, he was able to install Newt Gingrich --Newt Gingrich! LOL! -- as speaker of the House, with a whole bunch of yammerheads underneath him. He did this by teaching Republicans to repeat over and over and over again, about their Democratic opponents, some words. These words demonizing half the country worked. Like, they REALLY worked. You can see some of the same words being hurled at Hillary Clinton today!

But now that man is sad. He thinks America is hurting, and the two sides are polarized, and do not come together after elections. He came down out of his sad mansion, where he sits around in the dark, watching movies and eating cans of cold hobo beans, and talked to a man in Nevada. 

“This campaign is rough for me,” [Frank] Luntz said today, before addressing an “Eggs & Issues” breakfast sponsored by the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce at The Orleans hotel-casino. “It’s not what I expected. It’s not what I want.”

But how did we get here?

So where does the animus between the parties come from? Luntz traces modern political hatred to the bitterly disputed Florida recount of 2000, when supporters of Al Gore never endorsed the legitimacy of George W. Bush’s election, and denied him the traditional “honeymoon” period enjoyed by all new presidents. (Then again, as the late Vincent Bugliosi demonstrated in his classic monograph “The Betrayal of America,” there were legitimate legal and political grounds to doubt the Florida results and the Supreme Court’s resolution of the matter.) Ever since the 2000 election, Luntz said, the parties have grown more mistrustful of each other, and less likely to come together after an election and rally behind a winner. “That was the beginning of the poison,” he said. “And I don’t think this election is the end; I think it’s the beginning.”
