These animals have been making happy all day. The dog reminds me of a labradoodle, the kind of dog who stays puppy playful well into their teens, and delighted to share their joy in life with every critter they encounter.
The addition of a single kitten to the household added years, 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 years to the life of aged dog here. Lifted whatever canine depression he had to the point where the vet was asking "What did you do? He's a new fellow!"
same thing happened to us but with a puppy. Our 12-year old dog (our 15-year old dog had just died) acted old. Introducing the new guy and the old guy acts like a puppy, playing and he even eats differently. He's even gotten back some of his annoying puppy habits like dog thievery :)
My new kitten has really lifted my mood, even if he insists on climbing up my back with claws out so he can sit on my shoulder and purr. I love the rotten schmuck of a kid.
It's amazing how much dogs and cats have adapted to human behaviors. Any wild predator would consider kittens a nice snack but the old idea of fighting like cats and dogs almost never happens. Dogs and cats live together peacefully in almost all situations, including farm dogs and barn cats. Sometimes they play together but even if that doesn't happen, they tolerate each other and leave each other alone. Except occasionally at feeding time, when a dog tries to get to the cat food first and inhale it before the cat can have a shot at it. But the dog still does not consider a cat part of a balanced diet.
Tabs Gif reminded me, back in the day I had a dog named Sadie who was determined to steal the kittens from our cat Amelia. We went out one night and upon returning home discovered Sadie curled up in the box around the kittens and Amelia just sitting there waiting for us to remove her. We pulled her out of the box and she cried for an hour. After that she'd lie on the floor with her head hanging over the edge of the box and occasionally would sigh deeply.
YES! We don't have to choose between species OR size OR type of play.
.
Speaking of cats particularly, I had a heartfelt phone call with my dear niece, only child of my deceased loved sister this week. Wonkers, we were both in tears: happy tears because all five of this young couple's cats, three taken on when my sis died and her husband moved into assisted living (much older, has Parkinson's, cancer survivor, bad fall survivor to the point that his home was no longer safe for him), well, all five cats finally enjoyed something together! It's the Ripple Rug that was suggested to me by a couple of Wonkers before the holidays. I bought it for their cats as a gift. Anyway, she told me that the cats were living their best life as a result of that rug, which I bought NOT from Amazon, but directly from the makers at their web site. They also sell through Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/540999451/the-ripple-rug-cat-activity-mat-made-in?ref=yr_purchases
.
The sad tears were because the cat named Amy had to be put to sleep on Tuesday morning. Both of her retinas detached, she had muscle weakness in her rear legs, there were other issues. My niece could not afford the additional $1700 for more tests to determine the precise cause, and the vet told her frankly that there was no hope for Amy any way. Amy died being held by my niece at his office. They offered a couple of mementos and my niece chose the paw print in a square of clay. So this whole week feels like a shit show for more than just Felon 47. Amy lived a long kitty life and was loved so much. Her four kitteh sisters are doing fine and really enjoying the new play toy/rug. THANK YOU Wonkers who suggested it! At least most of Amy's final time on the planet had some joy in it. And all praise to those who care for cats and don't mind swelling the crew from two to five with no advance planning or notice.
I've had some mighty goofy cats... Had goofy of both species... keeps your sanity at times. Might need to get a dog to help in the next few years. Hmm got to find how to make my own pet food from scratch...
"Trump probably shouldn’t have pardoned this Idaho woman who says she is sorry she was in his “cult” and thankful that the Capitol Police protected her from her fellow tourists that day."
Well *she's* certainly not getting an invitation to Trump's next inauguration!
( What do you mean, that would be un-Constitutional? The PAB proved on day one that he didn't care about the 14th Amendment, why should he care about the 22nd? [ And I suspect he ain't too fond of the 19th, either ] )
In Bargaining in the Shadow of the Law: Divorce Laws and Family Distress (NBER Working Paper No. 10175), co-authors Betsey Stevenson and Justin Wolfers evaluate three measures of family well being -- suicide rates, domestic violence, and murder -- to determine the effects of reforms nationwide that created unilateral divorce laws.
The authors find very real effects on the well being of families. For example, there was a large decline in the number of women committing suicide following the introduction of unilateral divorce, but no similar decline for men. States that passed unilateral divorce laws saw total female suicide decline by around 20 percent in the long run. The authors also find a large decline in domestic violence for both men and women following adoption of unilateral divorce. Finally, the evidence suggests that unilateral divorce led to a decline in females murdered by their partners, while the data reveal no discernible effects for homicide against men.

I’m sure that our cutting edge Calif Senator Alex Who? Padilla will be leading the charge speaking out on the ICE/Trumpstopo agent who sliced Gardener Campos’ truck tires .
I'd like to pick the Wonkette Nation's brain here. (Also, I hope you are all healthy and safe. I've not been around much since the election, because I'm still working on processing, and not doing a great job of it)
The situation: We received a letter from a young cousin, who is a freshman in college, telling us that she 'found God' this year and will be going on a church mission to Africa this summer and can we please support her with prayers and money? Now, we are estranged from this girl's parents (long story, basically the wife is a narcissist and drove a wedge between her husband and mine) and have not seen or spoken to any of them in about 3 years. Her parents are quite wealthy, and send/sent all 3 kids to the most exclusive and expensive private school in the area. They also were never in the least bit religious, so it's always possible this is an act of rebellion by the kid. I do not hold the kids responsible for the parents' behavior, and actually care about them very much (the middle child is trans, and that is NOT easy in this times or this state). BUT I do not agree with these trips for many reasons, not the least of which is that I do not feel that proselytizing to impoverished communities is helpful, and that most of these organizations I suspect are just grifts.
The question: How do I articulate to this young college student that I love her, support her, wish for the best, but will not be financially assisting her? Or am I wrong altogether? Thoughts?
That's so hard. I'd send her a gift like a nice ... backpack? or something she could use with a letter and a few bucks for a treat, but just say you love her but as a godless lib you don't do missions.

You spelled "butt" wrong.
This is why, much as I love cats, I so miss having a dog, because dogs are willing to be goofy and cheerful in a way cats can't.

Old social animals usually like young social animals.

Aww, I love that!
A puppy tale. Thanks!

Our dog and the cats worked out a deal. The dog stole the cats’ food and the cats stole the dog’s food.
When I think of playmates
I don't think dogs and cats
But I'm too often proven wrong
And I guess that is that.
It's a damn shame Farrah and Tater don't get along well. But maybe that's because she's a cool cat and he's The Devil? 😉

That is a ferocious pack of kittens. I hope they don’t catch that poor doggie!
FYI I love the use of "Ha Ha We're in Danger" here. It exactly expresses the feelings.
I have to comment.

The only Amendment he cares about is the Second, and only because it gets people to like him.
Thank you for the wonderful Linda Ronstadt album!

Skylink? Starlink? Starnet? Linknet? Netlink?
CBS is merging with Skynet? That can't be good.

I'd submit that Donald is not soft on drug dealers so much as he is soft on WHITE drug dealers.
That Silk Road guy is White.
Every other drug dealer whom Donald ever said should be put to death was ....something other than White.
