True, I think it was her way of telling her fans not to.

I'm hoping he was caught off guard and was reading it off the teleprompter. It doesn't make sense, but they do have time to fill so...For the record I've always liked Chris Rock, his turn in Dogma remains a favorite.

Yes, given his documentary about hair, yes. They do have writers, but maybe it got missed in checking over the script.

Chris Rock going after Jada more than once in his public appearances, to the point that Smith had asked him to stop well before the Slap heard 'round the world, means to many that Rock was being deliberately provocative at the Oscars. To get laughs, but there may have been more to it than that. At any rate, sure, Smith should not have taken the bait. It is his fault that he did, and I've no doubt that he regrets doing so.

Chris Rock was being an ass indulging in misogynoir of a kind, and as such does not deserve to be let off the hook for his own decisions and hateful jokes at her expense. There is more to this than the triggering language or actions of DV. Unless JPS reveals that she is a victim of DV at the hands of her husband, or someone close to them both claims this, we should not jump to that conclusion. My understanding is that Will Smith and Jada Smith are not members of Scientology any more, if they were ever serious about it. I do not know if Smith is getting psychological help for what he has lived through or further marriage counseling--perhaps he will after last Sunday.

I in no way and at no time implied Jada was a victim of DV at Will's hands or anyone else's. I don't have any reason to believe she is, at all. I said the *logic* of saying Chris Rock made Will Smith hit him is the same used by abusers, and is thus triggering to many DV victims.

It's really important to keep the two offences separate. Chris Rock is an arsehole for what he said (and said before), and Will Smith had no right to hit anyone. Honestly, with Smith's own history as a victim of DV, he should know that better than anyone.

But I'm sure many, many people have pointed that out to him by now, and some of them hopefully care enough about him to point it out with love and concern for both him and Jada.

I wish I was a big enough person to hope Chris Rock is getting help over it, but his attitude towards women makes me feel petty about it.

Agreed. I hope the Smiths get help. Will Smith should do everything he can, anyway--they still have careers to tend, as well as their relationship. Chris Rock--what will he do? He got the attention he wanted--I wonder how he'll cope with the *sshole asterisk next to his name.

Since he's doing this for years, I imagine he'll wear it as a badge of honour :(

I wondered if some clueless, older, white guy wrote it, it really doesn't sound like Rock's "style".
