Several years ago, I had just finished shopping at the mall and returned to my car when a young man knocked on the driver's-side window. I rolled it down and he asked me if I knew where the bus that goes to the T station (public transit). I sized him up and decided he was legit, so I told him I lived very near the T and could give him a ride. On the way there, he told me he was a student who had recently arrived in the U.S. and would be attending one of the local universities. I wished him the best and dropped him off. Another time, I was driving in the early evening when it was getting dark. A woman on the sidewalk flagged me down and asked if I knew how to get to the next town over. I wasn't in a hurry, so I told her I would drive her there. It turns out she was a home healthcare worker who needed to take care of a patient. We had a pleasant conversation and I dropped her at her destination.
I couldn't look away from MS NOW after the murder. Protestors who refused to leave the scene of the shooting were tear-gassed, they weren't doing any harm, just bearing witness.
Apparently my wife's father's family were the first to introduce sized children's shoes to Europe, and they had the largest children's shoe factory on the continent until the Nazis took over.
Update: I got home a little while ago, but forgot to mention it here. To be fair, I have a lot on my mind right now.
A lot of it's more personal than I want to get into here. Let's just say that this recent news about ICE's fuckery (in general) is bringing up a lot of things I never completely got over in my past. I need time to work on this, with or without a therapist. That will, however, mean not popping up here as often for a while.
