One of the biggest things Harry did for the people and labor was refuse to bring Obama’s horrendous job off shoring corporate trade deal TPP to the floor. He stood hard that it wasn’t the right thing to do

Now that’s real leadership.

Y’all lied about the sanders people then why should we believe you now?

Darn those sanders people for wanting a higher minimum wage, affordable health care and education, strengthened safety nets, civil and labor rights, economic and racial justice, and environmental protection

Bleach was the worst. If you don't know how to do laundry why use bleach? I ruined a lot of clothing because people put bleach everywhere so it was still in the machine when you did your laundry after. No clue what they did.

fwiw I don't think we were ready, as the party committed to governing (as opposed to burning it all down, to gut the filibuster in 2010 as we are now. Maybe we should have been, but we weren't. It took ten more years of Mitch's horseshit, and frankly the last year with Sinema and Manchin, to turn the tide.

Maybe we should have been smarter, maybe all the necessary signs were there, maybe we were stupid. But I don't think you can legitimately condemn 2010 leadership with 2022 (almost) worldview and knowledge of what's happened in the interim.

I came on to say that, but you beat me to it. I'm watching the documentary her nephew Griffin made of her.

I understand that Reid was portrayed by Dickie Smothers in Casino, which I thought was neat.

You do have a point that, over time, more Democrats have warmed to fixing / eliminating the filibuster than in 2010. But even so, Democrats in office were up in arms about Republican obstruction even back then, and I think there would have been support for Reid to do more, and sooner.

That HuffPo article I linked to ... ? It contains this bit:

"When the Senate convened in January, Common Cause and other government reform groups urged adoption of new rules to promote full and fair debate, protecting the minority's right to air its views and propose amendments to legislation on the floor but allowing the majority ultimately to work its will. Several reform-minded senators, including Tom Harkin, D-Ia., Tom Udall, D-NM, and Jeff Merkley, D-Or., offered plans to break the Senate's gridlock. Their efforts were pre-empted by the Reid-McConnell "gentlemen's agreement.""

So there were already Democrats in the Senate who wanted to make at least some modifications to the filibuster to bring it in line. I don't have the details, but there have been at least a half dozen solid ideas on how to reform the filibuster, so I'll assume that those Democrats had reasonable suggestions. Reid didn't go with any of them, unfortunately.
