Gabe Vasquez represents an area in Red NM, the southeastern quarter of NM should just be ceded to Texass and NM keeps the mineral rights. So he pretty much had to vote for something that's going nowhere just to sway the few independent voters that lean R just to keep the seat in Dem hands. While NM is pretty much blue that part of the state is a haven for wannabe Texans and unthinking conservatives.

So much for the idiotic slogan “vote blue no matter who.” When are people going to realize that some Dems are masquerading as republicans?! Looking at Don Davis, Jered Golden, Fetterman, Sinema, Manchin, etc. The slogan short-circuits critical thinking and skews who can be counted to vote for Dem priorities. Ugh!

Ill-Advised's avatar

Really undercuts THEM, in fact. The posture purity is on them. And frankly, we have an all-hands-on-deck situation. The focus on smaller priorities is a disqualifier.

"Absolutely no one who is struggling in this country right now is going to go 'Golly, I’d like to not be afraid that if I get sick I’ll go bankrupt, I’d like to not have to worry about going broke trying to afford childcare, I’d even like to be able to buy a home someday, but those guys in Congress signed a thing saying they don’t like socialism, so I guess I’ll vote for the people who won’t do anything to help me!'”

>> I'm going to have to take issue with this right here. About a third of the country will do just that.

Rahm Emmanuel was supposed to be Obama’s pit bull with Congress on ACA, but he turned into the original Kristin Sinema for the Insurance Companies, and bailed to run for Mayor of Chicago in 2010, where he was the most disastrous mayor since Calamity Jane Byrne. The Laquan coverup was the awful precursor to Trayvon, Michael Brown, and George Floyd. Rahm needs to go sit on the Board of Trustees of Brandeis University, or Trees for Israel, or start a kosher cooking podcast, and do something useful with the remaining years G-d sees fit to bestow upon him. Has Rahm called anyone, anyone at all for Yom Kippur?

Yeah. Jen Psaki's fawning fondness for her old boss and continuing deference to him even now was just painful. It was like watching ice cream melt. Let's not watch MSNOW hosts become the Fox of the Left.

Win or lose, Ms Psaki plans to win, and to be “Fair and Balanced”. Up next: a movie deal with Paramount-Warner-Time-AOL, called the Redhead and the black haired female tag team the rich old man and his feckless son on 60 minutes.

Is this because someone thinks that Centrist tactic of constantly sliding further right is a winning strategy? Has that worked out well for ANYONE??? Apart from the GOP, of course.

Warren's avatar

Not in 46 years. Ask John Edwards and Hilary Clinton.

It's about time for the leaders of the DNC to start talking about how great republicans are any chance they get. I hate being this cynical, but I don't think the dem leaders want to win. There's no money in it.

Major Is My Spirit Animal's avatar

The DNC doesn't have a pot to piss in this election cycle as voters have wised up and just donate to candidates. Moneybeg emails and texts flood my inboxes and I always run some background searches to see if they are a) viable and b) willing to kick some ass.

The DNC is heading in the direction of the NRA, shooting themselves in the foot with the stupid "tack to the right" tactic.

Ill-Advised's avatar

Yep. Fundraising on losing is a great gambit. A fraction of the money GOP makes in office, with none of the risks of actually having to do the job; all that's necessary is to talk about the job!

Dems are absolute masters of creating circular firing squads. 🤬

I do understand why the "centrists" hate Mamdani so much. For as long as I've been old enough to vote, the democratic battle cry has been "There's nothing we can do." Mamdani has made it clear that you can accomplish a whole lot if you actually want to. The "centrists" just don't want to.

The problem here is that they are all Republicans circa 1984.

Mondale-Ferraro. I voted for them!

I am having some great difficulty trying to understand why they don’t just (go full Fettterman) leave the party and join the majority? What’s stopping them? Less snack varieties at the Fascist clubhouse? Concerns about showering with Mike Johnson? Fear that Jim Jordan will put them in a ‘sleeper hold’ at the Generalissimo Franco Freedom celebration? What? My advice to them is Don’t just go away, Just GTF Away. Now

They get a lot of leverage, and $$$, from the Will they? Won't they? game they play.

Also, on some issues they may find more affinity with Dems than Repubs. Some of them have seniority they may not have if they switch parties, including committee assignments.

For a lot of these people, it's about money and power far more than it is about any ideology.

They are beholden to AIPAC and other PAC's that not only support genocide but don't want the American people to realize that we are just $$'s to them. The American people spent $13 billion just this year on support for Israel which has all the nice things socialist have but these so called centrist Democrats don't want the same things for Americans because they favor Israel over America and they can see the writing on the wall, the American people are going to demand changes their donors hate!

Ummm….Israel is no longer the socialist Labour Kibbutzim semi Utopia it was in 1975. The 1.2 Haredim are creating a real “House Divided Against Itself” vibe, with “You can’t force us to enlist” and “I’d rather die than be drafted into the IDF.” In 1948, the ultra Orthofox Yeshiva students were 400 kids, and Ben Gurion said, “Sure, you’re exempt.” Now they are lying down in the streets and blocking traffic if one draft dodger gets arrested on a bus and goes to jail. Since their Torah and Talmud study is state subsidized because their wives are having 7,8,9 children, the State of Israel is facing a similar situation to the siege of Jerusalem in AD 70, when strict Jews refused to defend their segment of the wall from the Romans on Shabbat. Women are now required to wear long sleeves and long dresses with head coverings in 110 F heat during gender segregated university classes, and female Reform rabbis are not recognized by the two chief Rabbis (Orthodox and Conservative) that make up the Chief Rabbinate that determines who can get divorced (no one can; so everyone goes to Cyprus), who can get married (no mixed marriages between Jews and Christians and Muslims allowed), and a host of other issues that affect daily life. (But the Islamic theocracy of Iran is bad, bad, bad.) The brain drain is understandable and growing, because who wants to go to bomb shelters and pay outrageous taxes when Silicon Valley and Mumbai and Amsterdam are beckoning? You can do high tech software from anywhere, and who wants to do creepy military software when you can make fun animated cartoons? I think even Diamond Cutters are going back to Amsterdam, Antwerp, London, and Brooklyn, because who can focus on cutting diamonds when Shahed Drones keep falling out of the skies?

Jews, Mr Spielberg, are much safer in LA than in Tel Aviv. They are safer in Crown Heights than they are in Jerusalem. Give to the UJA charities that support Jewish life in the USA, please!
