I feel like housing, food, and healthcare should all be guaranteed for everyone, but I'm one of those evil, evil socialists, so...

What a fucking mess. The American Dream becomes a nightmare. Figures they'd go after the Black communities and would happily evict people. These hedge funds must be corporations, which as we all know, "are people".

And they can't vote, either. A real winner for the GOP.

I suspect there's a decent amount of foreign investment in hedges and PE firms.

There’s something so incredibly ghoulish about this business. I think were I an arms dealer making bank selling nerve gas to some hellhole autocrat, I’d refuse to talk to these people at parties. On the notion such an association would be bad for my reputation.

... sadly unsurprising it got going in the wake of the housing crisis, tho. Axiom occurring to me: there is nothing so bad that someone, somewhere hasn’t started a hedge fund to make it vastly worse.

They also tend to charge and have a person employed to keep an eye on the place, though in some cities I've been in there are pissoirs that are open enough to prevent anti-social behavior while allowing one to do one's business with a bit of privacy, provided one can do that business standing up.

One thing is horrible nimbyism. If the park has a toilet Those People will use the park. People want their "neighborhood" parks.

The ADA is also thing here that does have a negative outcome. The public toilets I have used in the UK and Germany lock down between uses and hot wash. They can not be made usable by wheelchairs.

I used an AirBnB for a vaca in Asheville. For two night. Then moved to a hotel.

Asheville actually has a good rule. You can have part of your property as an AirBnB if you live there: it is your primary residence, it is on your legal ID, and is your legal primary residence. So one per human.

You could make it "buildings" or "properties" so that when each property requires a single deed (like condos) then units count.

Look, I hate Bernie with the heat of a thousand suns but he has no role here.

Merkley has a history of effective legislation. It normally takes five years from introduction to law. He has cosponsored over 500 bills that made it into law. There is no comparison.

Onerous fines for unoccupied properties that are owned by any entity (human or corporate) that owns more than two places would transform our housing landscape.

Why two? Because every person in Congress has a place in DC and a place at home. Because old people who fucking vote all the time are likely to have winter/summer. Because the problem is not really 2nd houses, it is 3rd, 4th, .... nth, n+1,
