Yes, we, the non-wingnut legions among the walking, have, since time immemorial, suffered the curse of "common decency". If Dracula were "common decency", we would all be Renfields.
It does feel like the very idea of human decency is under attack, just like “political correctness” became divisive and was/is attacked, and affirmative action and healthcare for all, etc etc etc. Reality might sadly be that too many people are so unhappy, mean, angry and ugly inside that they prefer hate versus love. Let’s face it, even correcting for Trump derangement syndrome skewing my views, Trump is the human embodiment of ugliness. He lies (at a staggering rate about everything. 30,000 during his failed term alone?), he cheats (on wives, at golf, in business, on taxes, you name it), he spews hateful rhetoric. He glares, he frowns, he seethes, he scoffs, he sulks, he sucks. Why people are so attracted to that, is deeply upsetting.
At least human decency and hope are still alive in pockets. 70 million people did vote for something better. It needed to be 80 million, but we aren’t alone. Ruben Gallego beat Kari “I won all the elections” Lake in a pretty red/purple state and replaced Kyrsten Sinema, who is terrible. Sarah McBride became the first trans person in Congress, and Elissa Slotkin D-MI is going to the Senate. NC elected another Dem as their governor, although they almost literally had no other option, Robinson is so bad. It’s weird how red or reddish states that went for Trump still elect Dems for other seats. It’s kinda like abortion, democracy is left up to the states. Speaking of which, Kari Lake said she thinks the feds should keep their hands OFF abortion rights (too late!) and the choice should be up to the states. Why? Why not the choice is up to the person and their doctor? It makes no sense at all that wingnuts are fine with abortion rights being different state by state. But, it’s consistent with their tribalism approach. They want half the country to be a confederacy. You can do whatever radical progressive shit you want in your half. Heck, it worked perfectly in The War of the Roses dividing the marital home in halves. Ended happily.
"Have you ever seen The Bonfire of the Vanities? Terrible movie, just god-awful swill"
I thought the book was hilarious though.
After watching "The Right Stuff" in the theatre I went on a Tom Wolfe tear and read everything he'd written up to that point (including "From Bauhaus to Our House"). Later read TBotV and I liked it well enough, though I've never felt the need to reread it, but the movie was very, very, not good.
No finger pointing from me and certainly not at Elizabeth Warren who I'm sure was on this from the word go, but for the rest of the Democratic Establishment, when considering Sir's utterly predictable behavior what sort of hubris is required for things to come to this:
"Elizabeth Warren Spells Out What Democrats Must Do 'With Urgency’ Before Trump Takes Power"
Sounds like the Thing To Start Doing A Little Less Than Four Years Ago. * sigh*
My Trump-loving upstairs neighbor is literally having a party upstairs to celebrate that mf's re-election... they're a barely functioning, violent alcoholic. This should be a fun & interesting evening...😮💨
CD, honey, I totally get it. I don't even want to go out in public any more because I don't want to risk meeting someone who CHOSE what's about to happen to this country. There was no hidden agenda - it was all out there for America and everyone else to see - and they CHOSE White Supremacy. CHOSE mass deportations that will wreck whole families' lives - millions of them. CHOSE to take women's rights and forfeit their lives. CHOSE to throw Ukraine to Putin (sorry Europe!). CHOSE to dismantle basic health and safety standards, environmental laws, etc so profiteers can do whatever the fuck they want. The list is long, but you know it, sister. I'm so mad I can't even express it....because what's the point? The Kremlin doesn't care what I think. But here's what I want: I want the Press to RUB THOSE VOTERS' NOSES in each steaming, worm-ridden pile of Uncommon Indecency to remind them that they fucking did this. Every bit of it. They own it. Start with the men.
65%+ women have been holding these MFer's at bay for decades and yet here we are almost 250 years in and not one woman POTUS to be found. Once again we will fix this shit and then stand second in line for some patronizing asshat who fulfill the country's wish for a daddy figure. One that doesn't frighten the poor boys who are still pissed that their mommy's made them clean their rooms or wash their own fucking laundry and wouldn't make them a sandwich.
These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!
For the first day or two after the election I was all like, 'Welp, I guess I gotta sell my house, liquidate my assets, move my family to Antarctica, etc.". Now I'm thinking Trump's corporate backers only need to allow him and his henchmen enough rope to commit some acts of performative bullshit to keep his chud base happy, while reining him in from actually doing all the things he's claimed he would do, which would trash the economy. These performative acts will cause pain and suffering -- not trying to downplay that -- but may not bring things to the level of existential crisis.
The finance sector, including crypto, thrives on a bit of chaos, but not too much. The other sectors would prefer no chaos but can tolerate a bit, especially if they're getting what they want. Then they'll yank the chain. It's not certain the chain is as strong as they think it is.
Example 2: Do not actually impose widespread tariffs, which would raise prices and trash the economy. Rather, implement a few low-impact tariffs that stress the system a bit, then declare success. If the price of gas or eggs goes up a bit, the chuds and low-information people can be led to blame trans-people or wokeness instead of the mini-tariffs actually responsible. Corporate paymasters get to keep their Biden economy.
Example: Do not actually attempt to deport millions of immigrants, which is logistically impossible. Rather, make a big show of deporting a few 100s or 1000s of immigrants, chosen from some relatively less controversial sample, through some incompetent process that inflicts unnecessary cruelty (like separating family members), while announcing policies to beef up border security. Then announce 'success' and pause the deportations indefinitely. Outcome: Decent people are terrified. Chuds are orgasmic with delight. So called 'moderates' and 'undecideds' conclude Trump's policies are effective. Corporate oligarchs benefit from tax breaks AND continued productivity from immigrant labor force.
He may -- MAY -- be that rare Republican who understands Trump won't fail a second time, not with immunity on his side, and prioritizes saving his own life over joining the Leopard Party.
(linked tweet: "The people in my autism parenting groups who are just figuring out what gutting the Department of Education is going to do to their kids, after they voted for Trump. Whew, chile. It's a whole lotta 'they can't do that, right?' Nah, bro. They can and they're gonna.")
Especially after Dems are voted back into power and propose tough choices for how to clean up the mess. The low-info citizenry will have forgotten who was even in power when the mess was made.
I'll wonder how many people dying on ventilators regretted eating horse paste instead of vaccinating, isolating, and masking up, while others went down still stubbornly misplacing their blame.
Thinking of my sometimes bf who called me Wednesday (who NEVER votes, mind you) and said he was positively GIDDY over the election (I think he was fishing for an argument. I'm proud of myself I didn't give him one.)

Trump made sure common decency is gone.He doesn't even knows what it means to be a decent person. NO MANNERS JUST UGLY AND DISGUSTING.

I saw yesterday that Rhonda Santis wants his Health Guy (Dr. Demento Lampedo)
to be the Nation's Health Guy too!
Such good planning coming up...

Ta, Gary. Ta, Uncommon Decency. Ta, clouded leopard kitten.
Thanks for the baby clouded leopard pic, Gary. Or Decency. As you would. ;-) It helped.
Randi Rhodes predicts Ken Paxton ends up AG.
Just noting for posterity.
Would not shock me.
And I think Kacsmaryk and Cannon are gonna replace Alito and Thomas.

I read 52% of white women

This is more or less what will happen on that front.
It's called sado-populism
Prof Timothy Snyder

Reinhard Heydrich enters the chat....
This is exactly what will happen.
So you're saying it's like the big beautiful Wall. Only takes 5 yards to be able to claim success forever.
Mitch McConnell, of all people, seems to be implying that he'll be a speed bump of sorts. I guess we'll see about that. Not exactly holding my breath.
I don't think he can be run over any more.
He's been so reliable ever since 2008, when he hid behind doors and vowed to make Obama a 1-term POTUS
I wouldn't trust a thing that bastards says.
It's a big grain of salt, nearly a boulder.
Mitch McConnell should do us all a favor and die already.
And a whole bunch of other people too. No need to name names. You know who they are.
Or retire.
Mitch McConnell has squandered numerous opportunities to impede Trump. I refuse to depend upon him for anything.
Then Trump tried to kill him.
He may -- MAY -- be that rare Republican who understands Trump won't fail a second time, not with immunity on his side, and prioritizes saving his own life over joining the Leopard Party.
And what does the Turtle think of Vance?
Probably thinks he can be managed.
Oh, a catfight between Peter Thiel and Mitch McConnell
Won't be dull, even if the earth literally burns in the process
I think I’m more uncommon decency...
... like sure I do nice things for people. They just tend to be strange things.
Whole lotta stupid motherfuckers are about to learn some things about how elections have consequences:

The kids of course will suffer most of all
Something about Leopards Eating People's Faces Off.
I can't believe we're 9 years into this shit and people are still like "Trump won't really do that horrible thing he said he would do, right?"
Well, in his first term he still had the Rex Tillersons and the H.R. McMasters of the world.
Those men, while also shitty, were at least from planet Earth.
They could reign him in, on occasion.
Act as some barest semblance of a conscience.
His conscience now will be Steve Bannon.
They weren't ever taught the history of what the Nazis did to anyone who wasn't what they considered to be able bodied and neuro-typical?
Useless eaters.
Oh yeah, that.
But will they actually learn, though? As in, come to recognize the actual source of their problem? Or will they just be led to misplace their blame?
It'll be a lot of "how did Democrats allow this to happen?"
Especially after Dems are voted back into power and propose tough choices for how to clean up the mess. The low-info citizenry will have forgotten who was even in power when the mess was made.
I like this optimism. It's multipurposed as the driest sense of humor I've seen since Tuesday.
Two categories:
1. True believers
2. The Regretful.
I'll wonder how many people dying on ventilators regretted eating horse paste instead of vaccinating, isolating, and masking up, while others went down still stubbornly misplacing their blame.
Anecdotes of people dying and denying until their last breath.
Screaming MAGA fantasies at nurses.
I know I'm not cut out for medicine, because I would have unplugged their ventilators so fast....
"Terrible shame you weren't warned about this ahead of time, innit? *sucks teeth* "

I'm disabled myself. I've lived in HUD housing since 2003 and oddly enough I know many people who voted that way too I don't get it either.
