How this is affecting ICE is something we should pay attention to. The Nazis built the death camps because the earlier policy of large-scale executions in the field in Eastern Europe was destroying the German Army from within. Even specialized SS units selected for ideological reliability and eager viscousness, fell apart under the stress of routine, large-scale, face-to-face brutality. The Nazis learned that even psychotic hatred has limits. You can't just turn off the human drive to be sociable and cooperative. And that's gonna remain true even when the policies of hate fall well short of summary execution.
This crazy old man is sowing fear and uncertainty. Every Republican office holder needs to be asked: WHY ARE YOU AFRAID OF DONALD TRUMP? Failing to give an answer is not an answer. If they cannot answer, then they are afraid, and need to be told straight out to resign immediately so we can hold special elections or a constitutional convention to get this country back on track. Between Putin and Trump's infatuation with Adolph Hitler we are in a grave crisis. Building a Gulag to house immigrants is not acceptable.

There is zero oversight. They probably get paid per detainee at a flat fee and probably have add on payments for when they strip search someone, transport them, do medical exams and unnecessary transfers to other facilities.
Then they have no incentive to spend any of it. They are giving them just enough to avoid death so they profit as much as possible. And bonus for them, their lack of humanity is an asset for this.
The officers working there are probably getting crappy benefits (if any) and wages as well.

Here's a calculation I've done: The broadly accepted estimate of the illegal immigrant population (even if it's maximum to some and rock bottom minimum to others) is 10 million. The budget of ICE has topped 170 billion and could easily be on the way to 200 billion. That means if ICE could deport every single illegal immigrant in the country, the cost would average out at $20,000 per immigrant, which even now is pretty much a year's pay at a minimum wage job. That means for the same price, you could provide a native born citizen with a job, or pay enough foreign aid to support one potential migrant in their home countries, or just plain pay an illegal immigrant to leave. And meanwhile, Drumpf insists that more than 2 million undocumented migrants entered the country under the Biden admin alone. Math and MAGA do not mix.
