Ta, Robyn. This is all some good news, but I have a quibble. Taxing the rich, ending at-will jobs, stopping AI from using personal data to fix prices, and Medicare for All would not just be good for life in this country. It would be good for life on this planet.
Democrats really need to get out of their own way and start messaging on basic bread and butter issues. trump and the GOP have given the Dems a golden opportunity. Getting rid of subsidies for Obamacare has thrown hundreds of thousands off any health care. Pretty soon the remaining Obamacare participants are going to start getting notices of premium increases. I've seen a couple of articles saying that the premiums are going to skyrocket again.
Fact is many voters just do not have decent information regarding why things are going badly. They need the Democratic party as a source of reliable information regarding how the GOP is destroying their lives.
Unfortunately, all this hopey-changey stuff gets stopped dead at the bolted doors of Dummycrat senior non-leaders. Yes, The Squad will be larger this time, perhaps even hold some leverage in a divided House, but the notion that this gang of irredeemable corporatists will do anything to save your democracy, environment, economy, etc. that even mildly inconveniences Wall Street is laughable.
HuffPost Updates: "The Cook Political Report is shifting ratings for five gubernatorial races based on new analysis, with all but one moving in Democrats' favor. Ohio moves from leaning Republican to toss-up, where Republican Vivek Ramaswamy faces Democrat Amy Acton to succeed term-limited GOP Gov. Mike DeWine.
Arizona moved from toss-up to leaning Democratic, where incumbent Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs is favored to face the winner of a crowded GOP primary between Reps. Andy Biggs and David Schweikert.
Maine and New Mexico went from likely to solid Democratic. Democrat Hannah Pingree faces Republican Bobby Charles and independent Rick Bennett in Maine, while Democrat Deb Haaland faces Republican Gregg Hull in New Mexico.
Only Oregon lost some blue ground, moving solid to likely Democratic, where Gov. Tina Kotek faces a rematch against Republican Christine Drazan, whom she narrowly beat in 2022."
I think until the midterms I am going to pass on giving Texas in more information about me than necessary. I will restrict my newsing to Mother Wonkette.
Trump will let bipartisan housing bill become law without signing in protest over GOP voter ID law
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump will let the bipartisan housing bill approved by Congress become law without his signature, saying Friday that he was refusing to put his name on it because of the little progress made in passing a strict voter ID bill that he has been pushing.
“I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT,” Trump posted on social media.
Trump had 10 days until the Friday deadline to sign the bill, issue a veto, or allow the measure to take effect without his signature. He has chosen to let the measure become law without his express approval, undercutting his administration’s claims that he considers it a priority to combat inflation.
Trump’s rejection of the bipartisan housing legislation exacerbates tensions with his own party in a midterm election year and cuts short their efforts to address a key voter concern about rising costs. His post comes more than a week after he canceled plans to sign the bipartisan legislation, announcing he was using it as leverage in his push for a strict voter ID bill.
The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act aims to lower the cost of housing and spur more home construction. It’s the broadest federal effort in decades to address America’s housing affordability problems, as state and local regulations have made it difficult to build in many of the communities that are also sources of job growth and economic opportunity. White House economists estimated earlier this year a national shortage of 10 million homes and the bill could help to close a portion of that gap.
Last night and this morning there were several articles in the vein of 'where-in-the-world-is-mitch-mcconnell?' From what I gather from several really badly written articles is that if the governor of KY, Bashear, hears formally from Mitch BEFORE August 3 that he (Mitch) isn't coming back, the Bashear can appoint a trump-friendly replacement. If Mitch doesn't respond by August 3, then the position has to go to an election. Because Mitch is one of the roadblocks to trump's voting scam, the trump-supporting GOP is getting hysterical about where Mitch is.
Of course people are starting to realize Medicare for All will make their lives easier.
For a personal example I need to schedule a lumbar puncture with floroscopic guidance and sedation. After ten days, everyone is very nice, but are still quibbling over do i have the right paperwork to schedule the appointment.
We have not even gotten to the preauthorization stage. By Monday I "should" be able to set the appointment, then get the authorization because I could be treated without it, but my doctor wants it so he can make sure im not over or under medicated, or if I might need surgery. But because he "could" treat me without it, the insurance company could tell him to wing it with my brain....
United Healthcare initially denied coverage for a procedure I had in March, not authorizing coverage until end of business the day before the scheduled time. It took a peer to peer call including my surgeon to get over the hump. Until January 1st I had Blue Cross for the last 20 years.
Is Russian Ai / CGI so puny they can't just fake them sumbitches? They gotta send real cannon fodder into harms way equiped with a 1980s Sony videocam to get shot to pieces.
Zelensky has a good shot at not just driving the invader out but to also launch an offensive that gobbles up significant landmass to win the whole thing.

Really. More dumb-ass motherfuckers want to ban trans athletes than want to support women's healthcare. Fucking shithole country.

As the data shows, swing voters don't need no education.
Promise 'em cheap synth-food, an F-150, and a warm place to shit, they'll swing your way every time.
Schools out, forever.
If they meant any of that they wouldn't be swing voters.

Belgians are still having fun, they've named Trump's new plane Air Four One.
I just gotta point out that 16% of those swing voters are not swing voters at all, because nothing would convince them to vote for a Dem candidate.
OT: Bluesky needs to verify my AGE? Are you kidding me? I can either give them my SS#, or, equally loathsome, my credit card #
oh nevermind I'll just turn my VPN on - and fuck you Greg Abbot
Surprisingly that did not work, it still knows I am in Texas - but how?
Did you clear your cache and cookies and choose a VPN server out of state? And give the computer boxy a swift kick?

Want to hear a Belgian joke?
I got 1-4 you.
Democrats need to focus 90% of their energy on the economy. Pivot of that in all issues.
It’s not comforting to me at all to think that Trump may get away with a lot more of his crap if the economy was doing well.
But it is what it is. It really is all about how much money people don’t have after they pay all their bills.

Thank Crom his understanding of the pocket veto is so badly flawed that he forgot to tell Johnson to end the current session.

Until Putin's vanity war ends, I will continue enjoying every dead Russian soldier and every 'splodey Russian tank/jet/boat/fuel depot.
"Flag planting missions"?
Why? Oh? Why?

They've sunk or damaged 48 Russian vessels on the Black Sea and Sea of Azov in the last week.
Apparently there is now an agricultural crisis as there is no fuel to run farm machinery.
I don't think having hungry Russians will work out well for Putin.
Since when do politicians care about what voters want.
