When I was freelancing for a grocery industry trade magazine, I did a couple of articles about scheduling software. That shit is really sophisticated. The high-end models even come with AI to help better predict staffing needs.
The point is that if retailers wanted to cut out this bullshit about workers being "on call" and subject to last-minute scheduling changes, many if not most of them could do so tomorrow. But it wouldn't be convenient, and in American business the convenience of the employer is all that matters.
Well, at the Panera nearest me they can't get enough people to work, period. I've seen Saturdays where the manager and one other person was staffing the store, with the attendant extended wait times. I only get my free coffee there now.
Employers will fight like holy hell against this bill. they want to be able to adjust processing capacity at a moment's notice, so that payroll is as low as it can be without impacting customers. I will be dumbfounded if this bill makes it through our bought-and-sold congress...
Trust fall b*s, and other corporate team-building games.in the rubbish with all of them.
don't forget the cereal bar.

It's almost as if you don't have to psychologically torture your employees to get the results you want!
"But not psychologically torturing your employees takes all the fun out of it!!"
DemocratIC. Unless you really are a GOP spy.

Thank you. Pet peeve of mine.
Ima sharing this at work. I'll put it on Slack tonight after I get home.
Didn't they do that at Dunder Mifflin one time?
Seems the cruelty is the point in most of corporate America.
If the majority of people like the bill, Rs will be against it and vote accordingly.
Oops, shoulda scrolled down before posting.
Holy shit, the stampede when news went out that the Lucky Charms bin was refilled!
I'm a bit more cynical. If a lobbyist or two is against it, the Repuke pol will be bought off cheaply and will do his lobbyist master's bidding.
What? That takes all the fun out of toxic management!
