This is terrible, but as a native New Orleanian, I can tell you the New Orleans Public School board was one of the most corrupt institutions in Louisiana (that is really saying something). I personally feel it was too rotten to even try to clean up. I don&#039;t believe in Charter Schools but New Orleans schools were just hell, and they are far better now than they were. When Oracle came down to assist them with their database &quot;problems&quot; back in the ninties, they found all sorts of criminal shit and there was a big story about it (no one was punished to my knowledge). In this case I don&#039;t think there was any way out but the charter schools. Our public schools were easily the worst in the country, the buildings (some of them quite grand) were lapsing into dilapidation from neglect while the school board was siphoning millions (no exaggeration there) of dollars out of the system. Please don&#039;t take this as support for firing the teachers, that&#039;s another matter entirely.
