<Jeffries has often offered platitudes in the face of the health care crisis; last year, as Republicans were gutting the Affordable Care Act and kicking millions of Americans off of their health insurance, Jeffries simply said that, to push back, Democrats must “decisively address the Republican health care crisis because it is serious,” and that they must do so in a “bipartisan” way.>

Fuuuuuuck this bipartisan shit. When Mitch McConnell was alive, he didn't care one whit about bipartisan anything. I will never stop posting his exact words from 2017.

"Winners make policy, losers go home."

Do I want Jeffries or other Democrats to cooperate with Republicans? No. But turning down a meeting - that would have been spun to hurt Democrats as well.

Let's focus on Republicans till after November's election; we can have our intraparty fight after that.

Mighty Little Dog's avatar

Do it in public, put it on his public schedule then. It was secret because its profoundly wrong.

I like to give people "the benefit of the doubt" in many instances but Jeez, Louise, I don't want to "find common ground" with these trumpian bastards. There is no such thing. I want them to continue tripping over their own impediments and shooting themselves in the shriveled dicks so that the US people vote them the hell out of office, not find some way of compromise that makes them appear human when we know that they are ghouls.

Jeffries may be trying to say, "Well, we tried to make nice with them" to counter arguments that the disarrayed Democrats didn't even want to talk, but even that doesn't cut it with me. Let these ghouls, who have done so much damage to this nation and may now be trying to spray-paint their own piles of shit, sink in their own mire.

Wondering if we can bring the Albanian protestors in to actually show people how it's done to oppose rich fucks like Jared and Ivanka with sustained street protests.

Would have to have ICE shut down first, no doubt that this is why they were created in the first place and immigration enforcement is merely their training.

These two forces have been coming together to block progressives since I was born. Maybe not in secret. Maybe not personalized like this. But shitty, corrupt big business has been coopting liberals and "centrists" to squash the left since McGovern.

Trump: "Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots, and has long created a 60 Billion Dollar Deficit between our two Countries. Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE! On January First, 2027, Tariffs on all Cars, Trucks, both large and small, Automotive Parts, and Steel, will be increased to 50%. Build in the U.S. and there are ZERO TARIFFS. Canada will be treated like a State no longer! On Trade, and in other ways, also, they are among the worst Nations in the World to deal with. They feel entitled, and yet, WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US! They do 95% of their business with the U.S., with us, the exact opposite! Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

Citations required, fuckface.

From BOTH sides, dammit.

But this doesn't take affect until January so he's got time to TACO and repeat a dozen times.

This is why nobody is freaked out.

Maybe it was their mutual friend AIPAC?

Dave's Not Here's avatar

This meeting will make much more sense when we learn that the "mutual friend" who brokered it was Eric Adams.

I just called my congresswoman to tell her I am watching her support for Jeffries very carefully, and why supporting him will cost her my vote. I already disliked Jeffries, now I actively hate him.

SkeptiKC's avatar

You're in damned good company.

Jeffries has demonstrated himself to be a staggering disappointment.

Ya know, isn't it true that you don't need to be a member of the House in order to be Speaker?

That's not going to happen. You know that, right? It's nice to think about and all, but...

First step: Evil shitheel suggests "secret" meeting. You decide to go.

Second step: evil shitheel lays out all the evil shit they want you to do.

Third step: You make counterproposal that gives evil shitheel only one half of what they ask.

Fourth step: Evil shitheel laughs in your face, refuses to do any of that and ups the demands for even more evil shit.

Fifth step: You declare the meeting is unproductive and get ready to leave.

Sixth step: Evil shitheel threatens to blackmail you by leaking news of you taking the meeting. You realize whatever good reputation you had before the meeting will be destroyed if the secret meeting is revealed. The stink of the evil shitheel will drive people away from you.

Seventh step: You sit back down and start begging.

Eighth step: Evil shitheel laughs evil shitheel laughter and makes new demands

Trump has never negotiated in good faith, and it's foolish to think that he was going to start now.

Mighty Little Dog's avatar

And, if it's a legit discussion of possible co-operation on behalf of the American people, why all the secrecy and skullduggery? Why are they meeting off campus somewhere in NYC? BECAUSE JEFFRIES KNEW THE OPTICS SUCKED AND THE BASE WOULD BE OUTRAGED, ESPECIALLY THE PROGRESSIVE BASE

Linoleum von Curmudgeon, Esq.'s avatar

By meeting with the fascists he tainted himself with fascism.

You CANNOT shake their hands anywhere or anytime.

swmnguy's avatar

First time that happens to the hypothetical "You," I'll call them a naive dumbass and tell them they'd better have learned a lesson.

After the first time I have to conclude that "You" actually want to enact the evil shit, but pretend you didn't have a choice.

It is possible to both believe that the "Un1P@tTy!!!111!!" cranks are nutters, and also see why it's not THAT far-fetched.

What makes me say that, you ask. No idea, just popped into my head for some reason.

swmnguy's avatar

That's the dumb people's way of describing "The Corporate Finance, Empire and War Party."

To be sure, the various factions of that party have significant internal disagreements on other issues. But they all agree that corporate finance should be the true power in the nation, that our nation needs to be a global empire, and we need to get our way globally through war.

Not every Republican or Democrat is in that party, but it is a majority.

Just FYI, you can send messages to Kusher's lapdog at his congressional account even if you're not in his district; pick "comments from the American People" option at the page below. I also notified my rep with my request she fight any attempt Jeffries makes for the speakership (IF we manage to get control of the House).
