I wonder if the reason ProPublica has been killing it in investigative journalism so much over these past few years is because the former Big Media heavy hitters just haven't been as interested in shining a light on CERTAIN powerful people as they once were and are leaving behind a lot of low-hanging fruit.

Looking at you, New York Times, Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. Is corruption and malfeasance at the very top no.lonher interesting news, or are y'all just quislings and cowards?

Ta, Marcie. There is no such thing as a cool dictator, and Dictator Tot in the Offal Office has never been, and never will be "cool" until he's at room temperature, which day cannot come soon enough.

Wait a minute, Donnie rails against MS-13, uses the gang as an excuse to round up and deport brown people, but has secretly been working with a dictator who coordinates with MS-13?!

One of the more numbing stories I've read recently (because one just had to numb oneself after reading it) concerned Bukele's arrest of juveniles for infractions like using hand gestures that could be interpreted as gang symbols. Many of the parents of these kids have heard nothing of them since they were disappeared. The article also noted that some of these kids were as young as 12 - and were incarcerated together with adults.

"Bukele also got protection from US money laundering investigations, an indefinite delay of extradition of criminals from El Salvador who are wanted in the US, and a return to El Salvador of prisoners from the US who know about certain mutual-aid deals Bukele made with the MS-13 gang. The New Yorker has also been on this story; though not many other places seem to have picked it up. But with our own country getting a fascist makeover, one can’t pay attention to everything!"

* The Fulvous Fuckwad also wants protection from money laundering charges (or fraudulent business practices and the payment to E Jean Carroll for something as minor as sexual assault);

* Mooseballs Mussolini is letting Bukele protect his own personal contingent of violent assholes like our own Dear Leader (like pardons and sentence commutations of the J6 hostages);

* Those in the US with knowledge of a Bukele/MS-13 mutual protection pact are, by definition, enemies of the state. The US is obligated to return these Salvadorans so Bukele can give them an all-expenses paid lifetime vacation at CECOT;

* You didn't think that MSM sources like the NYT or WaPo would jeopardize themselves by reporting on something as minor as another corrupt deal made by the Amber Ardipithecus ramidus, did you? The Times is afraid of it's own shadow, and Bezos has made nice-nice with the Tangerine Tyrant;

* There is one more thing that Bukele offered the Pumpkin Pustule not mentioned: a supply of videos of his enemies being tortured, and snuff films with the same lead characters.

-----

"El Salvador has been in a Bukele-declared state of emergency over “gang violence,” which allows the regime to disappear anyone, including children, into torture prison with no evidence or any process"

The Sociopathic Marigold Swamp Monster is very jealous, and IMO he's (barely) biding his time until the MAGAdroids in Congress give him permission to do just that. It's become rather obvious that he already has private contractors building and running the American gulag. Like the Russians send their dissidents to Siberia, I expect a major reeducation camp to be built in the middle of the Alaskan Tundra.

"He set up geothermal Bitcoin mining operations in the jungle, rushed out a Bitcoin wallet app for citizens and Bitcoin ATMs, and required every business to accept said magic beans."

Feeling really old and out of touch. For all the sense I can make out of it, that sentence might as well be written in Chinese. I have always assumed bitcoin was nothing more than a cover/scam where rich people launder dirty money. I never thought I'd need to know much about it so I have not bothered to educate myself on it. I don't understand "mining" a digital currency.

But I suppose I'm going to have to learn, eh?

Basically, bitcoin are generated by doing math problems. The more math problems you solve,the faster you generate coins or fractions thereof. Thus, people set up giant server farms to do this computation. Coins are kept in virtual wallets, which are just an app to track how many fractions of a coin you own. A coin is currently worth tens of thousands of dollars so everything is tracked in fractions of a coin. The ATMs convert coin into real money.

You're absolutely correct it's a scam since the value of a coin is entirely arbitrary.
