Surprisingly, I have no snark for the gif today.

Squee, Martini! Thank you for sharing the amazing Electric Company clips, I absolutely adored this show growing up. Between this and Sesame Street, I had such a wonderful educational base as a kid. You rock, my sweet friend!

DustBowlBlue's avatar

Me too, me too! I think Sesame Street and I were born the same year, and I adored it, but Electric Company was my jam.

No wonder we're so woke.

Thalia Is Not Amused's avatar

Yes!!! I naively thought most of us early Sesame Street babies held onto those childhood lessons of tolerance and understanding. Sigh…

DustBowlBlue's avatar

I kid you not, my childhood image of "God" was Mr. Hooper.

Bill Door's avatar

Do not bring this show up to Morgan Freeman. He's mellowed on it but at this point in his career he is not discussing E. Z. Reader with anyone.

Martini Glambassador's avatar

Oh no! I didn't realize he harbored resentment about his time at the EC. I loved him as E.Z. (and also as the Veggie Vampire).

Bill Door's avatar

I don't think he's resentful of it per se, he just doesn't enjoy having it brought up because he's done so much else since then.

Martini Glambassador's avatar

Ah, I see. No doubt he has done much since, one could certainly argue that getting his shot on EC helped launch his very successful career.

Richard S's avatar

I'd also wager that he's tired of people saying "Hey, I remember you on The Electric Company!"

On our honeymoon 12 years ago we went to my husband's hometown and that area, and one of the things we did was go to Morgan Freeman's juke joint/bar because he also lives in the area. Sure enough, as we were having lunch drinks and snacks he came in.

I HAD to.

I went up to his table and introduced myself and got emotional and all I could get out was "Mr. Freeman--thank you for teaching me how to read. It is the most wonderful gift I've ever been given". He said "you're welcome" and I scurried away.

My husband's sister still gets back to that area and had joked that the next time she saw him she'd solemnly say, "Mr. Freeman--thank you for teaching my sister-in-law to read."

Don't drink Cosby's milk.

...Just don't.

Thalia Is Not Amused's avatar

Good advice! But what about pudding, is that safe? I mean, pudding IS milk-based, right?

Menotsure's avatar

If you can hide roofies in it, it ain't safe.

Thalia Is Not Amused's avatar

You make an excellent point, sadly.

Whoa! Now do Wonderama!

My kid loved "Fetch with Ruff Ruffman" when it was on in the 00's. Kid's class was eagerly looking forward to applying to be on the show, but then it was cancelled after 5 years. They should have gone national, but WGBH thought not. DAMMIT PBS!

Alpaca Suitcase's avatar

My kids watched that too! I'd forgotten about it, it was pretty funny.

CambridgeKnitter's avatar

My kid was in several of the live action interstitials in "Peep and the Big Wide World" that were filmed during the 2005-6 school year (as I recall). My husband was even in one of them because they were using his telescope. The interstitials kept being reused in subsequent seasons, so on occasion someone who didn't know us would see my kid, stop short, and say, "I saw you on Peep the other day."

Alpaca Suitcase's avatar

My kids watched that too! We even had a peep birthday party.

CambridgeKnitter's avatar

So do you remember the telescope one and the one where they dug channels in the dirt to see where they could get the water to go? Those are the two I can recall off the top of my head.

Alpaca Suitcase's avatar

The dirt one is familiar. The kids did that once. What I remember most are Green Island and the one where every time Quack heard a bluebird he yelled "the noise!" I still do that sometimes...

The Wanderer's avatar

A blast from the past!

Al Bellenchia's avatar

I was on Wonderama once!

Alpaca Suitcase's avatar

I wanted to be so bad. But my parents were lying when they said they sent in my letter.

Al Bellenchia's avatar

I was in two games. The host was a jackass.

Alpaca Suitcase's avatar

Lol I guess parents know best.

Bill Door's avatar

I was on the waiting list for Bozo Show tickets, but by the time my name came up I was too old for the show so I passed and let some other kid go instead. I like to think whoever it was won the Grand Prize Game that day.

Rags's avatar

I was on Mayor Art in SF once. It did not launch my career. So I still talk about it.

Admittedly, Democratic politicians have never been very good at jujitsu, but haven't we all learned by now that trying to shame the shameless is a fool's errand?

Reading Mr. Obama's speech before commenting would be helpful rather than wrongly assuming what he said.

Some guy at the WaPo helpfully points out that "America is less polarized than it used to be." It's true, our leadership is all about that Peaceful Transition. When we fight, we just upset everybody. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/12/09/election-polarized-voters-politics/

Satanic Pancake's avatar

Oh no, MAGAts! Please don't listen to your Felonious Junk Leader and go after the Electoral College! Those of us on the Dem side would just *hate* to have elections decided based on actual votes rather than the slavery-age EC! https://bsky.app/profile/georgetakei.bsky.social/post/3lcv2jgqudi2p

TWO ACTIVE TEACHERS IN POLITICAL OFFICE!

I love that my big sister city Atlanta is always moving forward! I hope more teachers pursue political roles like this!

Signed, your little sister Birmingham.

MSM still seems to be glossing over this as a possible motive to the UHC CEO assassination.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was one of several senior executives at the company under investigation by the Department of Justice when he was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel on Wednesday.

This is really seeming to be more of a professional hit at this point and not some random patient that was screwed over. Maybe the UHC executives should be more afraid of themselves than the general public.

Mike_Cramer's avatar

Sigh... The Electric Company. Back when Americans cared if their spoiled useless brats could read.

Forget Blazing Saddles, it's stuff like this or 3-2-1 Contact or even Sesame Street that wouldn't get made in these days of proud, willful ignorance.

Ha! I still have one transit ticket left that was full price in my former age-range, and I'm saving it as a souvenir of my youth. Every ticket from here on out is half-price.

Mexican cuisine is so versatile. Looked in the fridge and pantry last night and found I had tortillas, enchilada sauce, a jar of borlotti beans, some pepper jack cheese, and some leftover root vegetables from Saturday's gratin. So, root vegetable gratin/borlotti bean/cheese enchiladas for dinner.

CC's avatar

That sounds f-ing delicious, tbh! What kind of root veggies did you use in your gratin? 🤤

OneYieldRegular's avatar

I used 3 carrots, 1 parsnips, one head of cauliflower and a small fennel bulb. Those get cut into bite-size pieces, tossed with olive oil, and pre-roasted in a hot oven, then transferred to a gratin dish with some vegetable broth, a little cream, salt and pepper, and a combination of pepper jack and Parmesan cheese, then baked again until the cheese is browned. Super simple.

CC's avatar

That sounds amazing! I need to try that, stay!!

Thank you ! 🙏🏻

*stat, not stay...stupid autocorrect!! 🤬

OneYieldRegular's avatar

My news feed had a piece from FOX News about how "hundreds of veterans" were writing in to support Tulsi Gabbard. Turns out it was just 250 on a list that was topped by Michael Flynn and Jack Probosiec.

I think the pundits have it all wrong. Kamala should have leaned to the left, touting abortion rights, plans for child care, paternity leave, higher minimum wages and greater ease for unionizing. Also undoing the Trump tax cuts by reminding people that that was what added 4 trillion dollars to the federal debt.

marxalot's avatar

I think that people want a genuine alternative and not Republican Light and that the ideas that seem “too extreme” to pundits and advisors who look at exit polls and not the “if you just describe socialism without calling it that Americans want it (avoid mentioning that Black people also qualify)” are actually stunningly popular. I think that the liberal left yielded the narrative to Reagan and has never, ever gotten a handle on their own image since.

rawrtigerlily's avatar

I don’t think any of it really matters when 50% of the people who decide to go to the trouble of voting get all their “News” from intentionally misleading platforms.

Your message can be perfect in every way, but won’t actually have any effect on the people who intentionally avoid hearing it.

Rosy red ASS's avatar

Maybe you saw a different Kamala but everything I saw was that she DID tout all those things.

Thank you. That's the Harris I saw as well.

Morning Queen Rebekah!

Gary Seven is in Mexico and I will try to write a caturday post on my study of Mexican Street Cats 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛😉

That is all…

Biff52 vrag naroda's avatar

Congrats, though Mexico isn't exactly space, is it?

I want to go to there, too.

The G-7 Experience's avatar

I landed briefly to catch 100 lbs of fish. Space is remarkably fish free…

Day one: Shockingly, Mexican street cats are just as indifferent to hoomans as American cats.

This has not been my complete results so perhaps you will read my story on Caturday!
