Wait, the EO was for medical and lifesaving surgical only? If the executive order doesn't include ALL surgical abortions, both elective AND to protect the life of the mother, the EO useless to 46% of "I don't want to be pregnant" people.

That is unconscionable.

I not only read those histories, I've lived them (will turn 71 in a few weeks). Hell, I've participated above and beyond my fair share in making those histories happen. And, yes, I'm brash, arrogant and obnoxious enough to say I've passed the point in my education where (to quote Thomas Paine), "every person of learning is finally their own teacher".

As for emulating the GOP, that's just a Lincoln Lad wet-dream. Besides, the DNC's elite (corporate) donors aren't going to fork over a couple billion per year to build the propaganda and think-tank infrastructure that GOP elite donors did to construct the one they've built over the past 60 years. Not that the DNC is ever going to embrace the genuinely progressive populist policies needed to provide a credible alternative to the GOP's regressive populism. And unless one is a climate change denier, humanity may not have 60 years left...or at least civilization as we know it.

I like Paula Poundstone, but I don't admit the comparison here.We WON.We won by a record-shattering landslide, and we're acting as though we lost, in the name of some notion of bipartisanship that showed itself to be counterproductive about three minutes into Obama's first term.I wasn't so naive/optimistic as to think everything would be fixed instantly, or even that we'd regain ALL of the ground that we lost, ever -- but I did that at least we wouldn't still be in free fall. And yet.

What did we win? Be specific.

In what way are we acting as if we lost?

Your expectations are colored by 4 years of Trump, who never met a norm which he wouldn't beat to death in a back alley. If that's what you want from Biden, say so.

"A poorly thought-out EO is much more easily defeated in court than a well-crafted one."

In normal times, that would absolutely be true. With this court, they can flatly reject it out of hand, no matter how well-crafted, "because SHUT UP, that's why!".

What did we "win"? Be specific.

Your perceptions are colored by 4 years of Trump, who never met a norm he wasn't willing to beat to death in a back alley. If that's what you want from Biden, say so. Then defend the position that he can actually do it.

So long as the Senate continues to operate under archaic and anti-democratic rules, it’s never going to be enough to just have won. We have win by a big enough margin to make a difference.

And then, of course, there is the Supreme Court, which is probably fucked for a generation.

That and declare states have no authority to regulate what people receive through the mail. That one should be a no-brainer since the Constitution clearly makes postal service a federal responsibility.

Full disclosure, I'm not as old as you. I'm willing to debate this in (I hope) good faith, but it's going to be lengthy and I need food.

If you're not interested, I won't be mad.

IANAL, but I think the remedy would be file a habeas corpus motion in federal court and have the state law declared invalid.

Of course, this Supreme Court is likely to side with the neo-confederate states. So, there’s thaf.
