Interesting that these self professed "uber menschen" can't compete unless the game is rigged.

Interesting that all these uber-menschen aren't so confident in their own superiority that they're willing to play on a level field.

I taught AP Psychology in a high school in Wisconsin. The textbook I used talked about the fact that reason liberals tend to have higher IQs is that when you think divergently more neurons have to fire in your brain. When you only think in one stream the neurons do not have the same opportunity to stimulate brain activity.

Yes, but the moment these lawsuits start, Congress will pass laws making discrimination lawsuits illegal, or setting the bar of proof so high, no plaintiff could possibly meet it. And they’ll add it as a poison pill to the debt ceiling or disaster aid or something the Dems really want

And so I am drastically reducing my FB time, and moving to BlueSky. Once all my FB friends (mainly old Army buddies) have made the switch, I will likely log out forever.

On the surface, this is terrible. But it might, possibly, could be a Sneaky Nice Times of the Future. The smartest companies will still pursue DEI but either not draw attention to it or will proudly wave it in bigots' faces. I have yet to meet a member of the public or even my own family who knows how to be a good customer or worker if they are also pushing micro aggressions against POC, women, the older workers, the disabled...let alone indulging in openly bigoted BS and being sex pests. May the best places to work WIN! (Higher education, unfortunately, is probably going to twist in the wind if they are under the control of RW governments.)

McDonald's of all places getting rid of their DEI initiative? McDonald's largely serves minority communities. Why would they do that? What are they trying to prove and to whom? That is a really really bizarre move.I would think that McDonald's would take this as an opportunity to double down on their DEI initiatives in order to show their bona fides of supporting racial and gender equity and diversity. Even simply as a cynical PR move ...Fast food is already in the shitter big time. Have you seen how much it cost to eat at these places now? I can get a much better meal for the same price or less at Panera or even at Applebee's for fucks sake. Pretty much the only people who eat there now do so out of habit

Article misses one large set of potential lawsuits. Shareholders. When - as is accurately pointed out above - DEI initiatives improve the bottom line, a company which ends them is by default leaving money on the table. And that is grounds for lawsuits from the investors because a corporations sole driver is "make as much money for us as possible".

And, shareholder lawsuits can not only name the corporation, they can name the individuals on the board and the c-suite people in charge of making these kinds of short-sighted decisions.

When that starts to happen, you'll see the DEI efforts back in vogue in short order.

I think Robyn covered it when she mentioned the fact that corporations don't have these initiatives out of the goodness of their hearts. They have them because it is good for their bottom line. If being racist sexist fucks was better for their bottom line, then that's what they would be....

Which is pretty much what dropping DEI makes them out to be. I just don't think that employee lawsuits will force them to change their ways ... those being seen as a "cost of doing business" as much as shareholder-driven lawsuits will.

Dunno where I saw this first today, but it seems to fit in here:

Dr. Eden-Reneé Hayes, a diversity, equity, and inclusion practitioner explains how Yoda teaches us about DEI:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M30iSJRHFfM

She also points out that DEI makes good business sense. Companies that implement it make more money, just like Robyn says in the post.

I want to clarify up front, this is in no way a pity party post for myself, I am stating the following to support a point made in the article. I currently have a a great job I've had for over a decade, and in workplace that has to comply with federal eeo guidelines.

I have a black sounding name. I am a white dude. I struggled greatly to even get interviews after submitting applications or resumes, after that moved to being something that wasn't done in person. When those studies were released, I wasn't surprised at all by them.

It is absolute horse shit that anyone's resume is being filtered out due to their names.

Convince some major shareholder groups like retirement funds or 401k management firms to sue them for leaving money on the table.

My company has doubled-down on their DEI program. They sent an announcement out saying that despite the anti-DEI nonsense out there, they are still committed to it. It's pretty hard to have a multinational advertising company with offices, clients, and messaging across the world if it's filled with bigoted assholes. They've also done a pretty good job internally of getting more women into management and upper management positions.

In day to day operations, the direct impact of the program on us last year was a 30 min online course with a quiz, and a couple of web seminars. The horror.
