I actually think that MAYBE SCOTUS would be right, if we lived in a normal timeline with more principled Republicans and more Americans who were less concerned with winning and more concerned with right and wrong. And if there was actual election fraud that was not COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting Fascism, because this country’s water has broken and it’s like eight centimeters dilated.

Holy Shit you are awesome.

The court has made the way plain, yet Biden will not do what needs to be done.

Either way, we now no longer have a Democratic Republic. We have an autarchy.

There isn’t any way back without extreme measures of the exact kind that WILL happen under a Trump presidency.

Yet, The Democrats (TM) and the dEMOs will remain filled with election hopium.

There are people that need to be removed — officially, of course — both from office and from the equation altogether, but the Ds are afraid violence will break out. Maybe they ought to wake up to the fact that under an increasingly likely Trump administration, violence will surely break out.

Doesn't this mean that Biden can now just direct the DOJ to put Trump and the 6 rogue SCOTUS shitbags in prison? If he tells the DOJ to do it, that makes it an official act so he would have immunity, right?

He ought to try something of the kind. Also to arrest Mike Flynn. Also to move Bannon under the cover of secrecy to a maximum security prison. The list of what needs to be done is long— including the sudden arrest of the billionaires who bribed the courts, but Biden “believes in Americans.”

We’re witnessing the end.

I stopped believing in Americans years ago. It's why I fled the country in 1995. I watched Republican gut the middle class and put the country on the road to theocratic fascism in the 80s. There was a glimmer of home when Clinton was elected, but when Gingrich and Christo-fascist extremists took over congress in 1994, that was the end. I knew that the America I knew was over and would never get better in my lifetime.

I predicted full fascism in 20-30 years, and along came Trump and his cult, right on time. This may be the last election in the US.

There is every possibility you are correct.

The problem for many is what they are going to do, because they _can’t_ leave the country.

So presumably if Biden officially ordered the military to seize all the ballots in the next election, that's totally cool?

We knew it was going to be ugly when the Supremes agreed to take up a case whose answer was "ha ha, fuck no," but damn. This is about as ugly as it could conceivably be. A power grab that makes Loper Bright look like a schoolboy prank, coupled with a dismantling of the Constitution the dumbest Sovcit couldn't dream up on every drug except haloperidol.

There is no way that the people who wrote the Constitution would have essentially given the legal protections of royalty to an elected role. It is impossible to identify acts as crimes and at the same time, define them as lawful crimes.

So, an official act by our current president could be to "disappear" Alito and Thomas - right?

Expand full comment

Does that mean Dark Brandon can have all the judges killed in their sleep by extremely competent people (hell, he is 80) if he is ready to go to trial for it, or is that a reading too far? Because I can not see anyone stopping him from going full God Emperor right now...

Expand full comment

I happen to believe that is our only hope… To remove the Bribed and the ideologues, and to rapidly appoint new judges, leaning on key senators (“we know of your crimes, and the sword of immunity hangs over your head”) for confirmation, with the specific intent to judicially return to key issues.

The far-right is chortles over this, even though the decision came down while Biden is in the Oval Office, because they know the Biden administration will sit on its hands.

At this point, even with an increasingly unlikely Biden win in November, with a closely divided Congress such as we have, we’re still in deep trouble unless key “justices” are forcibly removed, and those who have bribed them arrested _and held in custody_.

Expand full comment

I slogged through reading the decision until it became completely clear that it was just a pack of lies phrased in judicial language. Classically bad, sort of like the Dred Scott decision we learned about in high school. The chief justice must be really proud of himself.

Unlike Dred Scott, there’s no going back from this if things are allowed to stand as they are now.

Well, at least his name will be in the history books as the Chief Justice of the worst SC in history. Assuming we still have history books when this is all over.

I'm glad that SCOTUS has declared that the man who has promised to decree on Day One that people like me and so many of my loved ones are no longer people can not only do so, but can enforce that order however he and his White Christian Nationalist supporters (on the court and off) wish. Thank you for doing that now, SCOTUS. It's nice to have a little time to set my affairs in order, before the WCN death squads start going door-to-door and, well, they're not called "free sandwich squads," now are they? Seems like a missed opportunity, that.

Thank you for the gift of time, SCOTUS. I do hope I can put it to good use. But, perhaps more than that, thank you for the gift of clarity. There's something wonderfully focusing to see your doom coming, and know that you will not avoid it, no matter what. Whether they simply drag us from our homes and do it in the streets, or they go the trouble of setting up camping excursions first, it all ends the same way. All paths lead to the same bloody end. I can think of few better ways to remind people to make every day, and every choice, count.

It's positively inspiring.

Perhaps it is time to accept that revolution proceeds out of the barrel of a gun.

I say to everyone: don’t go quietly. Take some with you.

I bought a gun last year because I have a psycho neighbor who loves to come to my house and threaten me. Now it looks like I may have other uses for it. I hope Democrats start to exercise THEIR 2nd Amendment Rights, which aren't even real, but this SC says they are, so arm away!

The Supreme Court just changed the rules of the Presidency and ended the rule of law - the dissent of the Court is saying - Save our Democracy - the courts play out their part in the balance of powers - Trump is now guilty of 34 felonies - the Legislature investigated January 6th - they did their bipartisan duty - the people did their part - the democratic process gave President Biden an 8 million vote win - we know President Biden is decent - it is time to do his part - Save us President Biden - you’re Democracy’s only hope! -

The court accepts impeachment for a sitting president, they can still read that in the ol' Constitution, If President Biden sends Seal Team 6 to kill the former guy, and he isn't impeached, the Supreme Court says he cannot be prosecuted after he leaves office.

Because a guy who'd do that plans to leave office alive!

A President no longer has to worry about impeachment, since he can always kill enough Senators to make sure he isn't convicted.
