Living in Washington state, it’s pretty awesome that Patty Murray is Head Bitch on Appropriations: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/channeling-old-political-spirits-sen-murray-rains-money-on-wa/

It makes me happy that Southern Baptists in Arkansas pay taxes to fund a Latino LGBT center in Yakima and a Refugee Artisan Center in Seattle. It’s just a smidge of payback for my money going to crisis pregnancy centers and ethnic cleansing in Gaza. We need billboards bragging about this stuff in the Bible Belt to rub it in the Christofascists’ noses.

Next time she needs to fund a high school for teen drama, the arts, and feelings that will train the next generation of clowns, puppeteers, and theatrical jugglers to ask the world “what is art?”

What will she do when she can no longer insist on her existence through stunts like this?

Referring to a House bill as "the thing" may indicate we have entered uncharted waters.

It so much harder to be a reporter when the subject doesn't give you a press release you can retype into your word processor.

The first word processor I ever used was made by WANG. I should have known then.

Officially the shutdown lasted two hours. So the Rebs got that going for them. Poor Joe had to stay up past his bedtime just to sign it. So he's probably being cranky at them for being rude and stupid.

Shutdown? No.

Shitdown? Both legs.

I was appalled at the circus of corporate tabloids that surrounded Marge like she was King Charles. There are actual people in Washington who care about governing, care about taking care of regular people, and care about the country. But what I witnessed Friday watching Lester Holt and NBC news with my mother (she insists), I recognize we are doomed. They covered two "politicians" on their 30 minute program; Marge and George Santos. Yup.

well, ya know, send a lightweight to catch a lightweight. Isn't Lester Holt one of those guys who, whenever mentioned, is "respected journalist" Lester Holt? Because once or twice in the dim past, he actually did commit an act of journalism, which he now repents. So much easier to review the theatrics, the drama, that the Angry Clown Caucus performs daily.

In a sane country, one that still clung to what shreds of dignity are left, would greet with howls of derisive laughter both Empty Gee the horse-faced wonder and Mr. Reductio ad Absurdam himself, the guy who was too corrupt and fraudulent even for the House Majority, which is composed itself of nothing but corrupt frauds.

"clung"? I think "clang" would be correct but at this point I don't know.

Years ago, Lester Holt was a pretty respected newscaster in Chicago. He went national and then downhill from there.

Lester Holt is the Tim Scott of the newsroom.

These people are traitors. They think all of this is a fucking joke. It's so goddamn cynical. There are things that we used to do to traitors in this country that we are not allowed to talk about in these comments. I just can't imagine being so glib and cynical about the country I live in that I would throw it under the bus to make as some kind of privileged white asshole joke. They seem to think this shit is funny. I just don't understand these people. I don't understand what motivates them. I don't understand their cynicism against everything that is decent and good. I'm just gobsmacked. My flaming hatred for these people and Wonkette commenting policy insist that I and this comment now. Let's just say that if it was up to me and I was in charge. You fill in the blanks

It's not a joke to them, though, is the thing

They want us to THINK it's a joke so we don't take them as seriously as it's necessary to take them to stop them, until it's too late

She has not responded. Which is exactly what you'd expect a reptilian alien to do.

She doesn’t want chaos, you see? She’s only saying ANY bill that passes with ANY democrat thumbs ups is TREASON and a smite on fine conservative voters everywhere, who are DEEPLY concerned about the details of the federal budget bill. lol. Yeah, ok, Madge. It’s awesome tho that Republicans are talking out loud about cutting Social Security and making the full retirement age SEVENTY, so the average American can enjoy less than 8 years basking in their life’s accomplishments. Men, anyway, because women never accomplish anything. Kidding! Men die on average before 80. That’s all. We have heart attacks and prostate cancer and gun accidents. But because Congress critters get to live pampered lives with new bottles of water everyday and comfy benefits, they want everyone to experience the joy of working until you die. Voters are NOT ok with this hideous idea. We want to retire after 40 years of working and paying taxes. For most of us, that’s 58-60. 62 is a fair compromise, 65 should be the very ceiling. But 70? Come on, thugs. You already have an Albatross around your necks, you can’t afford to throw the election by starting a panic over SSI. And people SHOULD panic. 70 is a far away goal for many, and others will limp to the finish line battling health problems. 60 for early, 62 for “standard” benefits, 65 for “full” or “maxed-out.”

Are we supposed to pretend that this is anything other than Mad Marge’s latest stunt to get her face in front of the cameras? That’s all she cares about. This is the woman who went to the SOTU dressed like she was going to a Trump rally/tractor pull. And before the last SOTU, she pranced around the halls of Congress with a balloon.

This woman wakes up every morning with the thought of, “what can I do to get attention for myself?” Serving her constituents or the good of the country never enter into her thinking.

Jeebus, I as so sick of this woman.

I wonder if her MAGA constituents love her because they see her face on tv and think she's actually doing something (other than garnering attention).

They sent her there to “own the libs.” They also don’t know what a US Representative’s duties are.

She’ll be the next Newt Gingrich. No one remembers what district he represented either. Including him.

OK. So what happens if the rethugs' bluff is called and the government runs out of cash? Results would probably be bad, but if we do it once, and everyone sees how bad it is, won't the grandstanding finally stop?

Absolutely not. Newt Gingrich started this bullshit in the 90s, had a showdown with Clinton and Clinton won. But the Republicans learned nothing from the episode and they've been repeating it ever since.

no. Fox and their corporate allies would spin it as the Democrats' fault, half or more of the dolts at home would buy it, and the American Experiment, as it has been called, slides smoothly to the bottom of the ocean.
