It's a 2 part problem. The NRA is the first part, but the other part is that the GOP has spent far too many years equating gun ownership with "freedom" and every other buzzword they like to use, so the base gets apoplectic whenever any talk of gun control comes up.

Their view of our whole system of government is one of utter contempt, so they can't even be bothered to pay attention during congressional hearings. F*ck the Rethugs.

Two children, whose bodies had been so pulverized by the bullets fired at them

F**k. F**k. F**k. F**k. F**k. F**k. F**k.

Tell me again, NRA boys and girls, how your country is the bestest place on Earth.

I was discussing these mass shootings with a colleague (we are both Europeans).I shocked my colleague by showing him the website of a vendor of kevlar-armored backpacks for schoolchildren. I know I was shocked when I learned of it, after Parkland.

For a laugh (1), check the little script at the bottom of the websites selling these types of backpacks. How the kevlar is rated for protecting against small caliber/small arms, but will not stop military-like ammo.(1) it's either laugh or cry. Well, yelling works, too.

Ban AR-15s and all replacement parts for them. Firing pins, bolt carriers, trigger packs. Attrition.

bolt action .22, with (in my case, starting at age 14) a 5 or 6 shot (forget which, but Virginia law prohibited anything bigger IIRC---hey, it was 1967) clip. I was never. big gun guy like most of my classmates were, probably explains why I can't remember how many in the clip. but the words "varmint rifle" meant one thing back then, and that thing was: .22 caliber. Or thereabouts, buddy had a .222 or .223 (again I forget)...he made more money killing groundhogs for farmers at $5 per tail than I did working at the Tastee-Freez.

Once we turn the schools into prison like compounds surrounded by barbed wire and guard towers, we can work on grocery stores. Then fast food joints, hair and nail salons, yoga studios, offices, and even public parks. All requiring screening before entering, basically airport type security. Of course, if someone does have an AR 15 on them, we must still let them pass because if we don't why even have a second amendment. I'm surprised they haven't insisted that guns be allowed in courtrooms. Well, not exactly. Judges, including Supremes, know that guns kill and they don't want them where they work. Admit that and it becomes a judgement call on gun rights being abridged, which the NRA does not want to hear.

If the Supreme Court did rule on such a case it brings into question why they are allowing guns to be carried everywhere else. Either the second amendment is absolute or it is not. And if it is not absolute where is the line drawn. Then it becomes a public policy issue, not a constitutional issue. At what point does your right to own any gun you want take a back seat to the rights of safety for the general public. Gun nuts definitely do not want that argument to arise.

I would prefer a kick in the nuts.

So I can walk into a polling station in a bright red district in rural Michigan with an AR 15 and pull the plug on a tabulator. Or does that privilege only a apply to militia members who drove 200 miles to Detroit.

I think if the $benjamins dry up, the politicians might dial back up their baying of support for gun rights and that within a decade will be amenable to "common sense" gun control measures.

Exactly. Hit 'em where it counts. It's always about the money.

Republicans can take their phony concern for Miah and shove it sideways up their asses. If they actually cared about children not being traumatized, they’d actually do something to prevent the next mass school shooting.

Instead, we know from leaked talking points, their strategy is the same as always: distract, delay, and wait it out until the media finds the next new shiny. Oh and “scare a few gun nuts” into buying more murder machines because nothing should get in the way of gun makers’ profits.

Btw, the fact that even they are calling their base “gun nuts” shows how much contempt they have for their own supporters.

Fuck these fucking motherfucking assholes.

We always found a single shot bolt action .22 to be very effective. Of course you need to be able to hit what you aim at
