The Blue in the western half of NY are Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton, which are the biggest cities in the region.

They have no intention of doing anything that would actually restrict the flow of compliant, sub-minimum-wage labor to be exploited.

They intend to raise the "danger premium." To further intimidate desperate laborers so they can be exploited even further, and with impunity. When discovered, the workers will be punished; not those whose business model depends on the workers.

It's slavery updated to a modern financialized model.

I'm curious, what are the problems with illegal immigration? Other than process violations; the fact that they're here and working illegally, what are the problems?

If they're working, their employers are withholding taxes and submitting them to the proper authorities, right? Unless they're stealing from the government, which should be their responsibility.

Were we to simply give everyone who works a Social Security number, since they're paying in, allow anyone to have a drivers' license if they pass the test, what problems remain?

Sure, but you gotta be aware of who your neighbors are.

Jim Jordan reminds me of Shakespeare.

Specifically, the part about the tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

It's funny, my employer owns telecom assets all over the country, but the blue counties (other than the extreme NE counties near Plattsburg) almost exactly matches our asset map.Of course we kind of need population centers, and businesses, and universities for our customers. It's not going to just be an urban/rural divide, it's soon going to be a 21st century jobs/19th century jobs divide, because it's not just the lack of high-speed broadband to the home that's going to kill those regions, it's the lack of high-speed broadband & private line service for business that is going to kill those regions.
