I was going to reply to the poster that called the people coming to our southern border "refugees" but I can't find the comment now.

This is a PSA for folks. Asylum seekers are not refugees. A refugee in the official sense of it is categorized that way by the UN, they have a caseworker, a resettlement plan, a group trying to find a place for them to live. I'm not saying they have it good - a quick glance around the world will disabuse anyone of that notion - but they have *a status*.

An asylum seeker does not. They are here to flee something, assuming they pass the rather stringent credible fear/threat test we have, they are probably fleeing something horrible, and have seen some shit.

But they have no UN status, just the good graces of a country like ours, and its people. We need to do better.

It would be nice to hear real truth. Not here though, apparently. The characterization of Republicans refusing bills to finance improved border protection and β€œalligator moats” is a lie in the sense of full information. Read more people, not this leftist malarkey. Republicans want funding for a wall or other barriers (not alligator moats, stupid) to stop illegal immigration, not social services comforting and increasing admittance of law breakers. Can you possibly see a difference? Read more sources people!!!

"stop illegal immigration"

"law breakers"

The rather obvious remedies for this are amnesty and higher quotas. It solves those problems neatly and costs almost nothing. If you are aghast over "illegal immigration" then make it legal and you can stop choking on your bile. Pretty simple.

The wall is just a stupid idea. A thing that would be good for no one except Republicans and their talking points. There is a problem, and it seems to me to be one of numbers... the sheer overwhelming numbers of folks who arrive every day. Democrats are correctly trying for solutions that are thoughtful and compassionate, not knee-jerk reactionary and... just plain mean BS. But Joe is losing voters over this, so something in the Democratic rhetoric needs to change.

How's this for real truth, Craig: The people coming here seek a better, safer future for themselves and their families, as I am certain you also would if you can possibly empathize enough to imagine yourself in their situation.

Rather than seeing the nobility here, you see criminals and political gain through fear mongering. This all ends soon, so enjoy it while you can. Why is it ending soon for you? Because we're leading with the truth. We're calling it out your politics for what they are: dehumanizing apartheid racism. I'd take an immigrant neighbor over someone like you any day.

A wall? But what if Mexicans learn how to make ladders? And what social services? Like corporate welfare breaks for those that least deserve and least need them? Or do you mean like giving loans to those that least deserve and least need them and then forgiving those loans? Or do you mean social services like allowing corporations to develop publicly owned land for their quarterly profits? You're going to have to narrow it down.

There is nothing, no issue, that the Republicans can't make catastrophically worse just by turning their attention upon it. The Death Cult rivals the Thugee, the stranglers for Kali that the British suppressed in the 19th century, in the number of their victims and lack of accountability. Even today, Governor Little Boots down in the Promised Land of Crazy, and his pet Surgeon General are not merely failing to fight the latest iteration of the Covid virus, they are actively discouraging sensible public health measures by spreading fantasies off the dark web in place of accurate information. It sometimes seems as if the leadership of the GQP has been hijacked by a dayroom-full of unmedicated schizophrenics, all valiantly battling their menacing hallucinations instead of our real problems.

I discovered my 7x Great-Grandfather was convicted of Heresy in the Old Bailey in London and forcibly transported to the Colony of Virginia in 1728. He was 18 years old when he was kicked out of England, he would be sentenced to 'burning' if he ever returned. He didn't come to North America willingly and probably faced discrimination from the earlier English immigrants.

The behavior of Republicans towards migrants and refugees is beyond abhorrent. Americans of European descent have absolutely no right to tell people who are Indigenous South Americans that they cannot travel freely on the continents that their ancestors have called home for over 20,000 years.

Legal immigration into the US is broken. It is impossible for people already struggling to survive to even begin the process.

Republican xenophobia is a betrayal of their "Christian" beliefs and American values.

It reported how Luna claimed that she was β€œWhite, not of Hispanic Origin” when she registered to vote in Okaloosa County in 2015 β€” then β€œHispanic” when she registered in Pinellas in 2019. "
