I wouldn't even want to guess how many hours my daughters have spent on that deck (we always meet there when the weather's nice).they are also still members of the UW-Sailing Club (the U rents out sail boats), and what a beautiful way to spend summer afternoons & evenings.
who remembers CETA under Carter? that almost got my brother, a great guy but probably not the most employable individual around, into a career as a firefighter. then it got deep-sixed, and just added to the series of disappointments and setbacks for my poor bro. point is, whatever we do, it has to be cemented in place long enough that it is no longer assailable by the assholes in the GOP, like Medicare.
I'm a Geography professor, fwiw, and I have a lot of sympathy for anyone graduating into a pandemic.
I do a lot of work with students on professionalization, linking their soft skills (which I'm sure your son has in abundance) to the competencies in job ads, etc.
They're SUPER free because they live in the NOW. And it's more Biblical because of like, that one verse about lilies of the field and sparrows and what not? CHANGE MY MIND.
(Of course, I have extreme sympathy for those actually suffering right now. Even if someone "made their choice" and is "reaping the consequences" of the leaders they chose and their money-first plans, I'm not about to laugh at anyone freezing to death or their home being damaged, etc.).
Those supply side idiots never look at the savings over other uses, only the direct costs. People with money to spend it and aren’t utilizing government safety nets.
Anyone who thinks that a federal jobs guarantee program or a $15 minimum wage "destroying the labor market for low-paying employers" would be a bad thing is an asshole.
It is called the "Housing First" model, and apparently Utah and Colorado are also experimenting with it. Okay, I think I've just stumbled on to my first project after I retire-- searching out & volunteering for Housing First in Minnesota.

Because he couldn't open the bottles with his tiny, weak hands.

My ma and pa would be thrilled to see that photo of FDR. (How about one of Eleanor as well?)

Can’t have that
Manual labor is where you work with your hands. So, hand jobs?
The first hit is free!

I'd be willing to bet that there are communities in this country that still use infrastructure built by the WPA and CCC.
