International Women's Day was initially proposed as a holiday during the 1910 International Socialist Women's Conference. Therefore it's very non-Alanis-ly ironic that it has pretty much become a day for corporations to (often clumsily) do some #empowering #girlboss marketing in hopes we will see it and, I assume, be so impressed that we all stop talking about the wage gap altogether.
KQED classical is doing a lovely tribute to forgotten or never recognized women composers today in honor of Int'l Women's Day. Heard this on the way to Trader Joe's so I'm paraphrasing but the host told about Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847), yes what's his name's sister who was not only a virtuoso pianist but an accomplished composer in her own right. In her lifetime her work went unpublished or get this published as the work of her brother It being thought unseemly for a woman to trespass on what is obviously men's work. The part that really got me was that when Felix performed for the Queen of E she requested a song that she told Felix she had always loved. He sheepishly had to admit that it was actually written by his sister.
How you ladies have not gone full Lysistrata (at the very least) on us idiots is beyond me.
If you're looking for a better way to celebrate International Women's Day today, why not throw some money at a woman-owned and operated business like Wonkette?
I dunno. Is it the site selling $600 "You Go Girl!" T-shirt?
(Rebecca's now smiles to herself and suddenly gets An Idea.....) 😁
And here in 'murca, the "Independent Party" is to the far right of the right-wing folks. It's so confusing, that when helping people register to vote, as part of a non-partisan event, we are allowed to pro-actively clarify for them that the "Independent Party" choice is a different thing from the "Unaffiliated with any political party" choice, and they should be sure of what they're selecting, if we see them filling in that bubble.

yes, “Liberal Party”, as opposed to “liberally minded”
Morrison has to outsource his empathy since he was born without that gene :(
I’d also like to apply a shovel to his constant smirk.
My sister also rarely cooks. Good thing her husband likes to cook. Not sure what she did when she was single.

But it wouldn't have "I paid $860 and all I got was this t-shirt" on the back.
Gin FTW!
Better yet, a Negroni. Damn those are delicious!
It was almost Mike Pence's neck
I am so glad burger king mangled it's 'women in kitchen' bit so badly.
They paid good money for that guy to ruin their brand with one stupid tweet.
Not that they spent their money more wisely for that whole smiley, plastic faced King they seem attached to. That thing is always creepy.

The worst King ever!
"Another round of French 75s, monsieur."
Mrs. H. graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1979. At least half of her instructors didn't even think she belonged there.
