No shit. I knew that, but at the time I didn't realize the parallels they were making in that episode which is basically a ton of bad faith anti-trans arguments.
They believe Democrats are being paid because they really can't imagine anyone believing what liberals believe. I discovered this once many years ago when my ancient neighbor told me Democrats are just pretending to care 'about the blacks' to get votes. As I got to know her better-- she was nice apart from this!-- I saw the consistency in her thinking. She believed it about politicians because anything else was too wacky. That was the beginning of our gradual divorce which was sad bc she was so old. AND I always believe Republicans are faking what they say, because their beliefs are preposterous and embarrassing.
See, I always believe republicans (voters, anyway) when they say something. I've seen the hostility out in the open. I see them rally behind enough bad ideas - ideas that will hurt them in the end - to know they mean it. No one who is willing to burn their own house down because they don't like the new neighbors is faking it.
I agree, I stated something similar, albeit far less eloquently, downthread. The entire body autonomy movement was predicated on this case. Certainly someone, somewhere within the realm of organizations dedicated to this cause, could have provided the support and recognition, financial or otherwise, for her.
I don't expect people to be superheroes, and I'm sympathetic to people being unable to resist the easy way out of financial problems, and I know that it was wrong of the pro-choice movement to make her feel alienated, but yeah... on a very basic level, fuck her.
It's one thing to think "I need to practice a kind of junkyard rat cunning to take advantage of anything that's offered to me because things can be pretty sticky for me if I don't." I get that it's necessary sometimes to take that view.
What I don't get is... when you've seen the damage that follows... how do you stay silent? How do you not acknowledge that? How do you not acknowledge that it's about more than just your material comfort?
I don't want to make her responsible for other people's actions, and those forced birth enthusiasts would have been assholes without her, but by raising her voice, she empowered a ton more assholes to work even more assiduously to make the lives of women in general harder and uglier, so yeah... fuck her. But more than that...fuck that. And fuck them.
How very Republican of you, "I don't give a crap..." And she didn't cause damage, because she was not a legislator. You focusing on THE WOMAN and giving all those men a pass makes you look ignorant and hateful, like Phyllis Schafly.
Wowser, as a team manager in my former profession I learned very very early on, that you never censure publicly, always privately. Anyone who denigrates a co-worker publicly is deserving of no respect at all, and is probably pretty darned insecure and ineffective themselves. Just saying.
Thanks, Sunday. This rush to hate the woman who made abortion legal in this country while giving all the conservative legislators a pass is disturbing.
Yep, projection at its finest. One of the most dependable characteristics of the ultra-right: accuse your opponent of the very thing that you are guilty of.
Not in this thread, because I'm not finding what I want to say anywhere else. But please, tell me what choices you do think women should be allowed to make.
I worked for Planned Parenthood when McOrvey started working with Operation rescue. It was pretty clear she was used and was a pained individual. I felt that she being homeless and destitute, and the face of Roe v Wade when she could not even get the procedure was really tough.

Yes, you're totally correct. I understood it when the Tea Party came and my childhood ended.

That's the great thing for Republicans about the #MeToo movement - they figured out very quickly that they could use it to their advantage.
So you are saying women shouldn't have choices, because they may make ones you don't agree with?
You really are anti-abortion, aren't you.
And required to co-parent with their rapist.
You really are rocking that copy and paste aren't you "sarafina"?

So much for a woman's right to choose.
