"Spray" is a real name? Oddly perfect for this lawyer.

Un-fucking-believable! These buttholes would do anything to cheat but nothing to listen or help their constituents. Jeebus they're going through hoops and it would be a lot easier to do their freakin' jobs!!

As someone who lived nearly 20 years overseas (in The Netherlands) working for a foreign (Dutch) entity I wanted to maybe clarify something regarding taxation. The IRS requires that Americans living abroad file a tax return. There are a couple separate forms that you submit (along with the 1040 EZ form) that address where you were physically present for like 10-11 months of the calendar year, as well as what your foreign earned income was. Generally, the IRS does not require taxes to be paid if one's income exceeds something like $90,000 (that amount may have changed slightly since I returned here 20 years ago), but that might be more the case if one is paid in the currency of the host country, after converting, say, Euros to Dollars. I'm not sure of the situation if one is employed by an American entity and being paid in Dollars. The US entity may still withhold certain payroll taxes like Social Security and the like, similar to what they do within our borders, but that I don't know. I don't believe if one is paid in Dollars one is subject to Dutch tax, which is significantly higher than the US rate. Generally, what they try to avoid is double-taxation. (The US has a reciprocal taxation treaty addressing just that with The Netherlands, as it does with many EU countries.) In all my years of earning Guilders and Euros I never owed anything to the IRS. However, every year I still filled out a 1040 EZ, as well as the other forms, and submitted them. The 1040 EZ form ended up being full of zeros, but there was a space on the form for stating your foreign income converted to Dollars. The important thing is for the IRS to be able to track where you are and what you were making. This is especially important if one was possibly intending to return to the US and maintaining a US passport. So, actually, for that whole time I was abroad I DIDN'T pay any US taxes, and I know plenty of other expats who were/are doing the same thing. Were I ever audited or something, the IRS has a record of where I was and what I earned all those years.

I mailed my ballot to the Virginia Dept of Elections Friday, 18-Sep. Every morning I check their web site to see if they've received it. They haven't yet. This is annoying, but based on based experience, they're just slow.

I have lived in the USA, most recently in Virginia, so I am not one of the folks they're attempting to disfranchise by this particular new rat-fuck.

> Even though these born abroad/remain abroad voters pay taxes, Republicans just don’t think they should be able to have a voice

Because Americans have always been in favor of taxation without representation

This You Tuber, Katt G, speaks 100% truth.

PBS Kids helps everybody learn. They helped learn to read, write, count, and express our emotions.

School House Rock had a song, "I'm Just a Bill on Capitol Hill." It taught us how the government works!

Literacy is good, and now kids are falling away from that. I don't hate any kid. Let them learn better.

“Even though these born abroad/remain abroad voters pay taxes, Republicans just don’t think they should be able to have a voice”

Um, what? I’m not defending the Republicans here, but I would be pretty surprised if these people pay US taxes except in those cases where they live in Canada or Mexico but work in the US. Most people pay taxes either where they live or where they work, or some combination thereof (it gets complicated quickly).

Really? Man, the US is a weird place. I do have an American colleague who got citizenship here a while back, but I think he’s a dual citizen. It would absolutely not occur to to me that he might be expected to pay taxes back home.

If anyone should be disqualified from voting, it's bigots - the same people that JD Vance and the RNC are pandering to.

Ot: hopeful news

Of the 50 states in the country I think maybe 3 having positive approval ratings : Oklahoma, Idaho, and West Virginia.

The president of the United States took his talents to Oklahoma, which may be the first time those words have ever been typed

And this is the crowd he could draw

“Welcome to Oklahoma, or as I like to call it brokelahoma. It’s a shithole state if I’ve ever seen one. Many people are saying shithole is spelled with a b”

Excuse me, Mexico? Your Lady President has been in office for about two years, and the murder rate has already dropped by half?

How dare a Lady President be good at her job?

That guy's right about votes mattering.

I'm sure you'll recall that one recent state election where the result came down to one single ballot.

Or that other race that was tied, so the election officials literally pulled the winner's name out of a hat.

Bupkus231's avatar

Occasions like these are as rare as voter fraud.

Brian McCurdy's avatar

We just had a primary in Delaware with a state rep race determined by 7 votes.

Martin Shobe's avatar

There was one local election, I don't remember where, that had someone running unopposed. He lost because no one voted, not even him.

Fifth Dentist's avatar

That doesn't happen in Georgia.

There have been cases where a sole candidate received no votes. The rule is that it is assumed the candidate would have voted for himself. If he'd bothered.

So he is declared the winner,

It may be a small group but I'd wager there are more of these people than people committing voter fraud, and we all know what a tremendous fuckin' threat to our democracy THAT is.

OT: Jobs report.

Paltry. 29K jobs added in September. Since February 2025, the Trump economic policies have created 776K jobs. That's a tad under a 39K/month average.

Paltry.

Sleepy Joe's economy added more than that in a WEEK.

Oh, and keep in mind - these numbers come from the numbers crunchers Trump's goons installed after Trump fired all the non-partisan, unbiased numbers crunchers.

So in reality, Trump has almost certainly created far less than 776K jobs.

Fifth Dentist's avatar

Probably more like LOST 776k.

Mr blob's avatar

The top line numbers almost certainly get adjusted downward now too. These are just the companies large enough to have a PR department to fill out workplace surveys. It captures nothing of the hustle culture “essentially unemployed” driving door dash for minimum wage

Will they be going after those born overseas who aren't US citizens, but who vote with money?

I thought not.

It's the people who have money who are "qualified".
