The best part is that Chip Roy and Massie got to show what gutless wonders they are. And now Speaker Moses will continue to run a scaredy-cat House. For now.

I am a latecomer to this thread. I did watch the voting yesterday and was very surprised at how quickly it got resolved. Part of me was disappointed that it wasn't more of a shit show.

I have two questions: One, why does Thomas Massie hate Mike Johnson so much? I notice that he voted for Tom Emmer. Two, what did Trump say to the other two holdouts to get them to change their minds so quickly?

Vote wasn't quite the laff riot I was hoping for.

It wasn't shitty ENOUGH!

Hakeem for President.

Well, so much for the "big mess" the GOP is going to be in.

Republicans always understand the assignment. Even when in disarray.

Not nearly as humiliating as I hoped,

Mike_Cramer's avatar

Nope. I was hoping for at least another dozen attempts like with McCarthy.

218 Johnson - 215 Jeffries - 1 Emmer

GOPers are sure to shout IT'S A MANDATE!

Johnson's son gets a text every time he goes on a mandate

215 Jeffries / 215 Johnson. Smells like a mandate!

If you want to hear what it sounds like when Congress applauds the news that Matt Gaetz is not serving in the 119th Congress, here you go!

First link that popped up that wasn’t paywalled.

Massie appears to be huddling with Marjorie Traitor Greene, who is on the phone - probably with Trump.

Speaker (?) Mike Johnson (??) has said that unlike Qevin McCarthy, he will not negotiate for the job. Which is awesome! Because now 216 Republicans can beat on these three idiots; shucks, that's the only option they have if Johnson won't negotiate.

So: what argument could they use on Massie, Norman and Self to get two of them to come around to Johnson? And if Massie is telling the truth, he ain't NEVER gonna vote for Johnson.

I don't even know who Norman and Self are but they are in for an interesting afternoon!

I'm in Baltimore now, and when I was walking the dog there was this deep bass sound coming from the south. Kinda sounda like "WAAAH WAAAH WAAAAAAAH"

Johnson has to win the majority of those present AND VOTING, I think. So not voting just reduces the total count. Amirite?

Robert Eckert's avatar

That's right. If all those who refused to vote the first round stayed out when called again, Hakeem would take the gavel.

White, D's avatar

So we have two votes for 'not Johnson' on the GOP side. Is he done?

Robert Eckert's avatar

Three in the end: Massie for Tom Emmer, Norman for Jim Jordan (LOL), and Self for Byron Daniels

C-SPAN just put up the alert that he doesn't have enough votes.
