The thing was that Bach and Handel were at the top of their game and writing Masses and oratorios was just what the big musicians did back then. Today's "Christian music" is nothing but lame, bowdlerized versions of secular music, written for a niche market who wants cleaned up and non-threatening versions of the mainstream.
