If a singer performs a line really well, with a pitch issue on one out of several dozen notes, is it better to have him/her redo the entire phrase, or tweak it slightly to make a good take great?
I mean, where do you draw the line? Reverb and delay smooth out vocal issues in similar ways, and nobody ever complains about those tools. I use a fucktonne more reverb and delay (and compression, EQ, etc..) than I use AutoTune.
It's a tool in the toolbox, and I'd be willing to bet that if you listened to that album 1000 times, you'd never even have a clue where those 3 autotuned spots were.
