Tips for Sunday shows: Turn on “How it’s Made”. Watch for hours. Learn how clay pigeons and kayaks are made.

IMO, the debate was not a disaster because of something Biden said.

It was a disaster because he largely stood there, mouth open, looking like he had no fucking clue where he was.

That's what's going to stick.

TFG's looking for a big $ draw, I don't think Vance will make the cut, probably the dolt governor dude will get it as he's got $ and is also forgettable.

I wish when a journalist interviews a prospective Trump VP nominee they'd just ask the question "wait, why is Trump not just running with his previous VP, Mike Pence? What happened to Pence?"

Then whatever bullshit answer they give, follow up with "ah, so that's just a fancy talk way of saying it's because Trump tried to have Pence hanged by his mob, and you think it won't happen to you too."

They never answer anything, why would they answer this?

"Well, Margaret, I know you folks in the media like to stir up conflict where there is none..."

Just asking the question alerts the audience to the issue. Sure, the answer will be bullshit, but that only drives home that they do not have an answer to it.

So many elephants in the room. Why is nobody actually asking that question? I'm not looking it up, when was the last time an incumbent president ditched his VP?

It seems a "Dunning-Kruger" thing to me with all these people. Each is so confident in their own ability to log-roll they think THEY will be the one to survive, flourish, and perhaps succeed to Trump's position.

Moderating:

I had to participate in a "forum", so not a give and take debate. A question was asked from the audience (showing they had no idea what the job was) and then my opponent and I took turns going first, and then answering with no rebuttal.

When she went second, she would totally just make shit up and at the end I'd say "can I just..." and no. So then the next time I went first, I'd spend part of my limited time trying to correct that, then answer the question, and then she'd do it again. You cannot get ahead with that, and in retrospect I see that it looked like I was cornered in a way, and trying to talk myself out of things (well--not ME, but like I was nitpicking). Meanwhile, she got to come across as confident (as idiots are), breezy, and never having to say, "actually..."

Twitter's algorithm would have done a better job moderating this debate than two alleged human beings. It can formulate questions at least as well, and it would also append any responses with a Community Notes fact check.

Think about that.

Biden and PAB could have drawn questions out of a hat, saving CNN from having to pay for Bash and Tapper.

Ward From Cali's avatar

True. It's just that we're at the point when a LITERAL AI would have done a better job. Hell, the Twitter algorithm isn't even an AI, it's complex and sophisticated software, but not even at that level.

Yeah, our capabilities have increased, but it says more about media degradation that two prominent and highly-paid media personalities can't match the performance of a fucking bot. How's that for a Turing Test?

Didn't fact check? CNN could have done the same job (and saved a lot of money) if they had just set out two dressed up mannequins in the chairs and used a recording of “Thank you, Mr. President.” every time the buzzer sounded.

I think it was also the huge support of George Floyd and the many young white people awakened to the systematic police brutality of black people, who then protested. Apartheid rulers freaked the fuck out and realized they had to dismantle education and our freedoms.... if enough young white people don’t buy into white supremacy, how will white supremacy rule with an even smaller minority. Gerrymandering can only do so much!

I'm not sure. He's completely up Drumpf's ass now, but he's on record of saying anti-Trump things when he first started running. PAB doesn't forget a slight. I can see him dangling the position to Vance (like he did with whatever cabinet post and Romney) and then going with Bergum (or whatever his name is.)
