MSM is not reporting on the bomb threats being made to Oklahoma schools, including those in the Tulsa area for the last week, because of the Oklahoma Superintendent of Schools and the Libs of Tic Tok false reporting of a tweet made by a school librarian.

Open season for pregnant women seems to have started early this year.

Dear God: please don’t make me have to repeat this joke again. It’s really not funny.

clairence's avatar

"Ohio cops shot and killed a 21-year-old pregnant woman, but we’re sure they had their reasons."

even if it was "justified", will they be charged under the abortion law?

That Will Bunch story at the Philly Enquirer is spot on.

"The Biden administration on Tuesday announced the first 10 medicines that will be subject to price negotiations with Medicare, kicking off a landmark program that is expected to reduce the government’s drug spending but is being fought by the pharmaceutical industry in court. [...]

The drugs were selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services through a process that prioritized medications that account for the highest Medicare spending, have been on the market for years and do not yet face competition from rivals.

1. Eliquis, for preventing strokes and blood clots, from Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer

2. Jardiance, for diabetes and heart failure, from Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly

3. Xarelto, for preventing strokes and blood clots, from Johnson & Johnson

4. Januvia, for diabetes, from Merck

5. Farxiga, for chronic kidney disease, from AstraZeneca

6. Entresto, for heart failure, from Novartis

7. Enbrel, for arthritis and other autoimmune conditions, from Amgen

8. Imbruvica, for blood cancers, from AbbVie and Johnson & Johnson

9. Stelara, for Crohn’s disease, from Johnson & Johnson

The drug industry fears that the Medicare negotiation program will open the door for lower prices in the private market. —NYT

Of course, repubs will work alongside them to thwart lowering prices.

Mal Speranza's avatar

The fact that the government was prohibited from negotiating drug prices is still mind-boggling. The wisdom of the free market strikes again.

Lefty Wright's avatar

I thought Republicans wanted government to be run like a business. I don't know of any business that doesn't want a volume discount on purchases. With Medicare and Medicaid, we are talking about a huge volume.

Blanche de Shambles's avatar

You can't fool me- Jardiance is a minor character from Les Miserables, and I'm pretty sure Xarelto, Farxiga, Enbrel, and Stelara are all place names from young adult fantasy novels.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

I saw an online quiz: Star Wars character name or prescription drug?

You Should Ice That Burn's avatar

I thought Farxiga was a lightweight Linux distro that was good for older hardware.

Biff52 vrag naroda's avatar

I always get that confused with Vera Farmiga.

Bupkus231's avatar

I feel I should emulate those people complaining about student loan relief - I took Eliquis for three years, and only now are they lowering the price - not fair!

If you were trying to write about "testes", you hit the POST button too soon. A rookie mistake.

TEST...TEST...ONE...ONE TWO...Can you hear me in the back?

It was not. I couldn't find it immediately after, looking for "edit" in the 3 dot menu on the app for another Wonky regular.

The pregnant woman? Well, first of all she was "no angel." And second, her mistake was not stealing enough. If she had stolen millions over the years, and then graduated to stealing government documents and State secrets, she would have had a cult following, and cheers. Unfortunately, she chose petty theft which, of course, is grounds for summary execution.

BlueSpot's avatar

Seems that the local LEOs are trigger happy. Too many police shootings for that small of a town.

Sherry's avatar

I find the “shoplifting” charge dubious at best.

Sunhead's avatar

Yep.

The proof should be in her car and on the Kroger CCTV.

Regardless if the car continued another 50' I would posit the cop was not in immediate danger. Also shooting into a moving vehicle is majorly chaos creating as you dont know where the vehicle will end up.

The G-7 Experience's avatar

For Crom's sake, just get her license number and pick her up at home!!!!!!!!! She dead now.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Good thing Ohio didn't pass a personhood bill, or that cop would be in deep shit for murdering the "unborn child."

Zap's avatar

Or in the heat of the moment who is in the vehicle.

Bunch isn't the first to note that the modern Republican Party is just a mass movement that's authoritarian, white supremacist, and increasingly violent and dehumanizing. He calls out MSM journalists for not saying that plain. I agree, but how long did it take then to get comfortable with calling Trump the liar he so obviously is?

Zap's avatar

Many still aren't.

Piece by Will Bunch really lays it out...and gets a few good kicks in on MSM simps like Peter Baker and Kathleen Parker.

On wasps: Yes, they are annoying. However, if you exterminate indiscriminately, you can make things worse. Bald-faced hornets (the ones that are more white than yellow) actually keep yellow jackets (more aggressive) in check. And even yellow jackets have an important ecological function, keeping other insects in check.

Research has shown that people who use an exterminator generally have just as many pests as those who do not. Why spray poison in your own environment?

Prostate of Dorian Gray's avatar

Not to shill for the chemical industry, however, the targets that insecticides use are get more and more accurate.

Sherry's avatar

We don’t spray either. Wasps are pretty benign and keep to themselves. We try to get the queen Yellowjacket in the spring with a trap. Other than that they just are not a problem for us and we definitely have them around.

eliz_'s avatar

I leave wasp nests alone if they are somewhere that we can easily avoid. But when they set up at the top of our basketball hoop (the cover on the top tends to get dislodged and leaves the perfect opening for them - they build there almost every year) and then attack my kids while they are trying to play basketball? Nope - those suckers are going to DIE.

See also: anywhere on the back deck where we spend time and the dogs sunbathe during nice weather.

Kobayashi Marooned's avatar

Same here. This year the bastards set up shop in a crack between house and steps. Since I am allergic to venom, they had to be evicted.

Fun fact, wasps are territorial. The exterminator checked the entire property and found an old nest under the eaves of the shed. He left it there and said that would discourage a new nest from being set up.

I'm thinking that there's a market for 3D printed fake wasp nests.

easelox is on timeout's avatar

They didn't check my back deck. We used an exterminator twice in 19 years when we got a nest in the back of the house. They used a dust only toxic to wasps, not mammals.

Nothing else showed up.

Wife will likely die if stung by a wasp.

I also trap yellow jackets in the bad years, don't get any other wasps in those traps.

And we have plenty of native pollinators all over the yard.

Honestly, I don't think eliminating nests near the house does anything serious to the overall yellow jacket population. They still come by and clean up dead mice or scraps in the yard.

They have so much territory to make nests, just not attached to my house, they seem to be doing fine.

Bupkus231's avatar

"Wife will likely die if stung by a wasp"

I've always wondered if honey bee venom is different that that of wasps - and if so, why are they equally deadly to people with allergies - or is it just that such allergies ar not that specific?

easelox is on timeout's avatar

Totally different. She is allergic to wasps but not honey bees. She stepped on one in college and almost died, they did tests to figure out which she was allergic to. Carries an epipen literally everywhere.

Bupkus231's avatar

My niece has a life-threatening allergy, too - but typing this, I don't remember what it is.

Suzie Greenburg's avatar

Not all pests are created equal. Perhaps there is an allergy at play, or damage being done. But your point about equallibrium is important to consider whenever deciding to try to remove any sort of animal from its home.

Antifa Commander's avatar

Because I don’t want the wasps taking over my porch.

ExecutorElassus's avatar

I mean, if you prefer the even-worse ones that will fill the void, you do you.

Bradthe🤖's avatar

Except that doesn’t always happen. We had yellow jackets set up shop under our deck furniture.

I went out with a flyswatter and got rid of several families in about 20 minutes.

Nothing worse has replaced them.

This is not the first time this process has occurred.
