Bad WolfKid is autistic. He's terrified he'll be locked in a cage. You know, because Sandy Hook. He wants to run away, to find a bunker, etc. NO. Not happening. And you know what? I'm betting the Wonketariat is with me.

IrishGrrrl, I'm a red haired, blue eyed Irish Colleen. And I am pissed. Your daughter will not lose any of her rights, nor will BWK.

Fuck them. And "Do not go gently into that good night."

I'll stand with you, too :)

My 16 year old son cried. I actually haven't seen him cry in years. Not even his first breakup was enough to get him to cry (at least not in front of mom. I suspect there may have been some private tears.) But he cried with me on election night/Trumpacolypse morning.

My seven year old asked, "did she win?" the minute he woke up yesterday. Literally before he opened his eyes. When I said no, he went into the finest state of denial that I have ever seen. #NotMyPresident all the way for him. Later in the day, I explained to him briefly how the electoral college works -- he kept insisting that more people could not possibly have voted for Trump, and therefore Trump couldn't be president. For some reason, I thought it might help to confirm that he was apparently half-right, at least -- more people did vote for Hillary. That brought him to the anger stage of the grief process. He's still telling me how unfair it is. I have no good response to that.

My 10-year-old daughter didn't cry or get angry. She's channeling Scarlett O'hara -- "I'll think about that tomorrow." Can't say I blame her.

I feel guilty that I let them get involved and interested. That I let them get their hopes up. That I thought an ongoing election would be a good opportunity for them to learn something about how their country works. I mean, I guess they did learn something, but it wasn't what I wanted them to learn, and I'm not sure they were all ready for that particular lesson.

BWK volunteered at our local HFA office. He's angry & heartbroken. And terrified. Emotionally he's approx 8 yrs old, chronologically he's 20.

I'm hoping the positives gained will outweigh the loss.

My teenager volunteered too. And I think that one of the most upsetting things for him was that after all the phone calls and door knocking, our own county went Trump. That was a pretty tough one for me to take too.

Poe's Law makes this hard to evaluate.

Banning you because this sounds more like a threat than sarcasm. If you intended this otherwise, please email me and make your case.

EDIT: Should have come to the thread before swinging the banhammer. Ban lifted, but let me suggest you not tell other readers their kids are going to be killed. It's paranoid and frankly sounded more like a threat than anything else. Also, get ahold of yourself. You're not helping.

Made that mistake with the Funny or Die video "Holy Shit You've Got To Vote". So many people saying "You convinced me to vote for Trump." Shitheels, all of them.

Gully Dwarf Stew

Although Gully Dwarf cuisine is known throughout Krynnas something less than desirable, gully dwarves seemto thrive on it. In theory their recipes can be soundand nutritious. In practice, however, meals served toguests tend to be unpleasant experiences. Without thebenefit of higher math (adding numbers greater than2), doubling a recipe is impossible for all but thecleverest of gully dwarves, often resulting in a drystew without gravy, or a watery soup without noodles. The following is a recipe that generally serves a wholefamily of gully dwarves, 4 average humans, or 1 largeadventurer who has been known to steal food off theplates of others. We have given directions for bothgully dwarf cooks and ordinary mortals.

Meat from 2 medium-size lizards (or 2 pounds of stew meat if lizard is out of season) 2 tablespoons flour 2 times (1 and 1 and 1 and 1 or 4 tblsp or 1/4 cup) 2 potatoes and 1 for pot, mangled (1 and 1 and 1 or 3 potatoes, diced) 2 carrots 2 times, stabbed (1 and 1 and 1 and 1 or 4 carrots, sliced) 1 stalk celery, stabbed (sliced) 2 onions, murdered (chopped) 2 bouillon cubes, crushed (Chicken bouillon good with lizard meat, beef bouillon for beef meat) 2 cups water, burbled (boiling) 1 teaspoon $#@*! sauce (Worcestershire sauce) 2 tablespoons parsley, murdered (chopped) 2 cloves garlic, mashed (minced) 1 bongleberry leaf (a bay leaf may be substituted) 1 teaspoon red gunk (paprika) 1 teaspoon salt 1 sneeze black pepper (1/2 teaspoon)

Womp lizard over head couple times. Throw lizard inpot. Add rest of gunk. Light big fire under pot. Take nap. (Gully dwarf directions) Or,

Mix flour, salt, and pepper in cooking pot. Trim fatfrom meat and cut into 1-inch cubes. Coat meat withflour in pot. Add crushed bouillon and water; stir. Add remaining ingredients; stir.

Cover and simmer at lowest heat for 4 to 6 hours, stirring occasionally, until meat and vegetables aretender.

And (with the exception of Bush 2) none of them had the full information security state which we now have.

Yes, and hyperbole is the worst thing since Hitler. Please calm yourself down.Telling other readers their kids will surely be murdered by rightwing mobs is not productive. I'm starting to rethink unbanning you.

Please review the rules. Particularly Rule 5, which pretty much translates to "don't piss off the moderators." You have been riding that one pretty hard.

I'd agree. Telling anyone their kid is going to be murdered is pretty creepy. Yes, even if you "mean well."

Not to worry...Donald is addressing the children already, via Twitter. He says they're professional protestors incited by the media and, get this "very unfair!" Would someone on staff kindly remind the PEOTUS which country he inherited, and fetch him a pair of big boy panties in Husky?

You know what would be a great gift? March, the graphic memoir by John Lewis, co-written with a former campaign aide, Andrew Aydin, and drawn by Nate Powell. It's Lewis's recollection,in comics form, of the civil rights movement, from his earliest involvement, to Selma, to the March on Washington -- and Barack Obama's inauguration.

Did a review of the first volume here; you may want to look at a copy before deciding whether it's right for your 10-year-old. There's violence and uncensored racist language, because it has to be there for accuracy.

The truly hilarious thing is the number of Yahoo commenters who angrily say Ms. Knope isn't fit to hold her job, and should be fired once Trump is inaugurated.

God...this. I scrapped my lesson plan for today and we had a discussion about how they were feeling about the election, instead. There was a lot of crying, and they spoke very courageously about being immigrants or the children of immigrants, about being the target of racism, about their fears for their reproductive rights, their partners, and their own safety. They talked about struggling with relatives or friends who are Trump supporters or who didn't vote. But they're grown-ass college students. My sister teaches English as a foreign language to high school students, 80% of whom are Latinx, and they're terrified. Her already insanely taxing job has become that much more heavy. I'm heartsick for every child who is living in fear because of this election. Children have no rights that we recognize in this society--just imagine being that powerless, whenever you feel paralyzed by what has happened. We need to be telling the little ones in our lives that we will protect them.
