I was today years old when I found out Warren Zevon offered several different versions of how he came to write “Lawyers, Guns and Money” in 1978.
I have said it before and will say it again: Warren Zevon is the most underrated male artist of the 1970s (in terms of popularity and replay).
There is a great story behind how Zevon came up with the story of “Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner.” Apparently in his travels he met a mercenary who had a lot of stories.
Unbelievable live version here: https://music.apple.com/us/album/roland-the-headless-thompson-gunner-live/294842868?i=294842896
I saw. Warren live at a club in Georgetown sometime in the 1980s. He was not sober. But he gave a great performance.
Two people I desperately miss in these times: Warren Zevon and Hunter S. Thompson.
