Democrats have to play politics to win. Winning is everything in politics say whatever you need to say they get the idiot voter to vote for you and then legislate like a progressive…as long as the economy stays good and your voters feel like they’re moving forward financially , you’ll be fine.
I voted in the NH district 1 primary on Tuesday. Both of my candidates lost, Manzur for Senate (expected since current rep Pappas was up for that seat to replace Shaheen), and Carleigh Beriont to replace Pappas. We don't often have both a Senate and House seat without incumbents running so the field was thick in the House race and no one wanted (or had the means) to seriously challenge Pappas
The House choice was tough. Stefany Shaheen (daughter of) and Maura Sullivan (ex-Marine and Obama admin vet) were the mainstream heavyweights and Beriont separated herself from the less well known progressives. I absolutely did not want Sullivan, she was getting money from PACS that obscure the true source and overall she came across as "career politician" to me.
So, do I vote for Beriont, the longshot, or Shaheen, just to keep Sullivan out? I went with Beriont and hoped she would win but not peel off too many Shaheen votes if she lost. The results were roughly Shaheen 38%, Sullivan 35%, and Beriont in the low 20s. It worked out but these are decisions I do not like to make in voting the way I do.
Take it from a Bronze Age comics fan: "Lanterns" is very good. It takes a very thoughtful, complicated look at how John Stewart has to navigate the world as opposed to how Hal Jordan has to navigate it.

I’m only half kidding because it seems that’s been the basic prediction. The idea that China’s artificial intelligence monster will join with ours to take on the walking blood bags is something I don’t think I want to be here for.

I'm also opposed to boys playing girls sports. But I can't believe that Amy Acton, an actual doctor, doesn't appreciate the difference between a boy dressing up as a girl, and an individual undergoing gender transition. Does she think gender dysphoria is just made up? Transition takes a toll on the body, and I can't imagine that it confers any athletic advantage. The possibility of injury will always exist whenever players encounter someone bigger, stronger, and more talented than they are.
She is probably trying to appear "sane" and "centrist" on this as a way to get Mom-'n-Pop Normal to vote for her. Other statements - like "let's take it on a case-by-case basis", are perhaps seen by her advisers as too nuanced and grey-area.

But I can't believe that Amy Acton, an actual doctor, doesn't appreciate the difference between a boy dressing up as a girl, and an individual undergoing gender transition.
