I don't think this is a good argument. Stephen is letting his (justified) distaste for the Lincoln Project lead him to strawmanning their argument, as if they're backing DeSantis as a "lesser evil". The LP's propaganda has been relenteless on the theme that DeSantis has no chance this time, Trump will steamroller him without breaking a sweat, so he's not even worth considering, and we should focus on the real threat.

You mean it’s not obvious now??

Exactly. Neither would have any traction if one of the two parties didn’t want they are selling.

tRump's appeal to the poor, white, and angry is that he enables them to channel their inner asshole. They were always racist, but now they're no longer afraid to express it openly.

Kind of like when he did an episode about how awful Trump is and then in a later episode, scrolled through a list of all the shitty things about Trump he didn’t have time to go into.

He is a real threat to people living in Florida right now.

I completely agree. He picked up a sizeable number of R voters between his two elections.

and we weren’t so great to begin with :(

Indeed. When your country shows you what it’s really made of, believe it. (And try to change it, but first believe it.)

DeSantis is capable. Trump is not.

There is no comparability in the respective dangers that they pose.

This. I actually think DeSantis would be worse.

Trump, for all his toddler bloviating, was largely ineffective due to his laziness and incompetence. He passed the tax cut for the uber-wealthy, but that was largely Moscow Mitch's doing. He stacked the Supreme Court with right-wing loons, but that was mostly Trump doing the bidding of the Heritage Foundation. I doubt he spent more than 5 minutes thought on any of his Supreme Court nominees. His wall was a failure. He never managed to get out of Afghanistan, and left the mess on Biden's plate. He was a dupe of Putin, Kim, and Xi Jinping. He totally bungled Covid. He really accomplished little else of note, other than daily rampages on Twitter. Maybe we can credit him with starting Space Force?

DeSantis is objectively worse. He's every bit as hateful as Trump, but more competent and more motivated. He actually knows how to push his shitty agenda through legislation. He knows how government works, and how to get his shitty laws passed. And he knows how to sound marginally more polite about it. He terrifies me more than Trump does.

I didn’t mention the Lincoln Project. They are not all Never Trumpers

All this talk about cornfields reminds me of this scene from Young Justice where Robin is leading a team of his on a mission:

Robin: "We have 3 options, cornfield, cornfield or cornfield."One of his team members: "Cornfield."(and that's exactly where they ended up going to)
