I wish the escalator that brought Trump down to announce in his presidential campaign in 2015 had shown as much common sense and good taste as the escalator in the U.N. and likewise refused to serve him.
Wouldn't be surprised if there was sabotage and well deserved at that. Genuinely surprised that there wasn't a mass walkout of the audience at the point where Trump started saying that all the countries were losers. Maybe the worst speech ever delivered from the podium in the history of the institution. The U.N. should start making plans to move to another country.
How did we end up here? How is this our reality? Those of us who grew up raised on American exceptionalism believed Trump had no chance in 2016. A womanizing blob whose claim to fame was repeatedly bankrupting himself, then later screaming “you’re fired!” on reality teevee and entered the potus race half as a lark and half as a puppet of Russia and other far-right forces had no chance against one of the most qualified and experienced female politicians in history. Then, when he improbably won, we knew our institutions, our “deep state” would hold and keep him in check. Then, we knew J6 was the last straw, and that after 2 impeachments his political career was thankfully over. We knew he’d be prosecuted and indicted and jailed.
We knew a second term was absurd, and that he had no chance against one of the most qualified and experienced female politicians in history.
Now, we are witnessing the total systematic destruction of democracy under this vindictive, decaying glob of malevolence. American exceptionalism is a fantasy. We still rank higher than many underdeveloped countries and places without democracy. But we are simply somewhere in the middle, and falling fast. We should be disappointed in our trusted officials, institutions, and ultimately our voters. There is no excuse for what has happened here.
"Maybe they appreciated the fact that very few people could have done what I did."
I think my favourite Trump moments are when he demonstrates that he has no idea what other people do for a living, and the skills and achievements he praises himself for are very common and standard. If speaking is in any way part of your job - if you do presentations, if you teach, if you make a podcast, *if you are in politics* - you regularly speak off the cuff for longer than 15 minutes.
Trump's gonna send in his thugs (exactly which not clear, mil it seems?) to go wild on the Portland, which he still thinks is some of kind of rebel People's Republic controlled by "Antifa, and other domestic terrorists" (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cddmn6ge6e2o). Yeah. And as usual, he and his regime are victims, and anyone giving even mild protest is a criminal, in fact a "terrorist."
Seriously, who has ever seen the steps and the handrail of an escalator be exactly synchronized? One or the other is always SLIGHTLY slower, so you tip forward or fall over backwards if you hold firmly to the rail. Amirite?!?

I want to go to the UN building and photograph a portrait of Escalator. With their permission, of course.
Any one else wonder if everyone loves him why everyone is out to get him?
Can't have it both ways, sparky!
To be fair many escalators are pretty Liberal.
But it's the right side that goes up
Steve Hofstetter:
Of course the U.N. escalator stopped working as soon as Donald Trump stepped on it. He turns off everything he touches.

Take the elevator, indeed.
Or the escalator immediately to his right, which was running just fine, thankyouverymuch.
Or walk up the stopped escalator, which is now a flight of stairs.
So many options. How to choose?
Or...just be a big fat Orange baby and whine about it.
It's always "D" with him. Always.
“Sorority Sally”! Hahaha.

Very sinister events! Three!

Trump was the victim of a woke Trans Staircase trapped in an Escaltor's body!
;)
Trump hates anything woke, and he hates sleepy escalators too. But I fully believe he couldn’t tell you what woke really means.

how is it that they keep getting to be the boy calling wolf, over and over and over again?

You are definitely right!
I laugh so I do not cry.
"I demand an immediate investigation!"
