I needed cats this morning, and had them delivered via substacks. I did not know I needed a somersaulting Panda as well, but turns out - I did!! Go, Panda, Go!

"the State of West Virginia will not recognize any election of the Democrat candidate for President during the 2024 election cycle if the Republican presidential or vice-presidential candidate is assassinated, seriously injured during an assassination attempt"

I just thought of a suggestion for all the misogynist, racist gun-nuts in West Virginia who are desperate to prevent Kamala from being elected, but I'm pretty sure it would be against the commenting rules ( which we don't have, because comments aren't allowed ). One state probably wouldn't matter, anyway.

I've been screaming into the void about this for months. Now a few other people are finally starting to notice that this election will be won or lost in the Statehouses and the House of Representatives, and panic a little bit. But sure, Wonkette, continue to fantasize how much y'all want Jon Tester holds onto his deep red state and how cool it would be if the most fascist state in the country finally decided to punch Ted Cruz in the dick. It's not like there's anything of life and death importance going on.

Love if there was a tiny bit more selection of sources from something other than Salon.

The same four people are probably quoted in all three of those stories. They are as shitty as The Hill and Politico when it comes to sheer laziness in finding people to give analysis.

“Love if there was a tiny bit more selection of sources from something other than Salon.”

I’d love it too, but not for the same reason. Our side seems to be a bit too prone to complacent groupthink ever since Kamala became the candidate. We are banking an awful lot on shifts in the polling among people who are too deeply stupid to have much of an opinion between “Normal Democrat” and “Openly Fascist.” Those shifts are mostly meaningless; of these assholes vote at all, they will fall in line behind whoever gets their attention last. Which will be Trump, of course, it's the one thing he's really good at.

And that will not determine anything, anyway. Republicans are gonna try to steal the election no matter what happens. Nobody seems to be doing anything meaningful about keeping them away from the levers of power that will matter between November and January.

Hmm. West Virginia’s Article of Secession is idiotically far-reaching in trying to defend their God and Savior from the rule of law. Hmm. So just how are they going to make that work? I know, they’ll starve the Federal government by refusing to pay taxes! Oh. Not that. Well, they’ll figure it out I’m sure.

West Virginia (the state that is second most dependent on Federal largesse)

West Virginians end up getting back almost every dollar they submit to the federal government – paying $1.04 for every dollar redistributed back to their state.

With a poverty rate of 16.8%3, West Virginia also placed third in a recent SmartAsset study determining states where residents are financially hurting the most. Additionally, just about 22% of residents have completed a college education – less than any other state in the nation.

There are a ton of Federal Agencies that have offices in different parts of West Virginia. Everyone there who thinks government is too big never speaks up about chopping some of those jobs.

The article about giraffes in trees reminds me of an old joke:

A: To hide better in apple trees.

Reading that shit about Reed O'Connor and Musk's suit against MMFA, My most immediate reaction was that all those involved on Musk';s side ( including both Musk ansd O'Connor ) need to be shot into the sun - and probably also those on the Fifth Circuit ( because, yeah, they can't be trusted to overturn O'Connor's bullshit. My second reaction was that O'Connor needs to be impeached - he clearly is not ruling impartially, or coheently

More PAB, from the Detroit Economic Club speech:

It’s so simple,” Trump said of his proposals to use the threat of tariffs to increase manufacturing in the United States.

“This isn’t like Elon, with his rocket ships that land within 12 inches on the moon where they want it to land or he gets the engines back,” he said. “That was the first, I really, I said ‘who the hell did that.’ I saw engines about three, four years ago. These things were coming, cylinders, no wings, no nothing, and they’re coming down very slowly, landing on a raft in the middle of the ocean someplace with a circle. Boom!”

“Reminded me of the Biden circles that he used to have, right?” Trump said, referring to circles placed on the ground in 2020 to help guests keep socially distant amid the raging COVID-19 pandemic. “He’d have eight circles, and he couldn’t fill ’em up.”

“But then I heard he beat us with the popular vote, I don’t know, I don’t know, couldn’t fill up the eight circles,” Trump said, then riffed some more:

“I always loved those circles, they were so beautiful, they were so beautiful to look at. In fact the person that did them, that was the best thing about his, the level of that circle was great, but they couldn’t get people so they used to have the press stand in those circles because they couldn’t get the people. Then I heard we lost. ‘Oh we lost.’ No, we’re never going to let that happen again. But we’ve been abused by other countries we’ve been abused by our own politicians really, more than other countries.” https://www.huffpost.com/entry/donald-trump-detroit-ramble_n_6708d8aae4b0c34b3eba97a4
