Ah yes but then companies like DoorDash argues that they aren't an employer, just a faciliator and therefore do not have the same obligations.

I started tipping my food delivery people almost exclusively in cash now. And I overtip in the instacart app because they cheap bastards.

Without reading about his case, I would guess that he was getting paid. Just not nearly enough for the hours he was putting in.

Laws mean nothing when the people who are supposed to execute them don't care about or are actively hostile to them. They don't even have to be blatant about it. Just underfund the departments responsible so only the very most egregious cases can be investigated because there's not enough money even if the people actually manning the department care.

It is exhausting, but please do what you can. Despair is not an option.

- Work with RAICES and other groups, give them money.- Find a camp near you (if there is one) and find the folks that organize witnessing at the camps, then go as much as you can. Be willing to be arrested.- YES talk to family and friends. Don't pound them with facts. Tell the stories. Connect on a common human level. Use "imagine if..." their loved ones were in the same situation. IN PERSON. Facebook arguments almost never result in anyone changing their minds.- PLEASE volunteer at your local Indivisible, SwingLeft, ... or Democratic office.- Give or volunteer for voteriders.org or https://fairfight.com/fair-... .- Show up at your representatives' offices and let them know exactly how you feel and how strongly you feel it. Get friends together and schedule a meeting. Go to their town halls. Be loud and firm.

It actually does do a lot. It dries up their money stream. It may not stop all the badness, but it wounds them.
