I've been updating you about the word count of my writing, but not about the story. Anyway, it's been about how fascism came to Ruritania, and the main character is based, loosely, on Kafka. I wrote a while ago a detail about how the days of the week can be told in Strelsau by the buskers and performers on the trams and that if you have no money you can have a good night out by simply riding the trams around with a bottle of slivovic in your pocket. Today I started reading Kafka's complete diaries, and in the first pages he writes about how there are performances on the trams going round Prague, which he thought were pretty good considering. I am happy to take this as serendipity.
>>They are murderous thugs working for a eugenicist administration filled with people who feel that they have impunity for whatever it is that they do, to anybody.<<
I have never understood why changing the clocks is such a big annoyance. Like, what happens? Why is it different in the US to in the rest of the world?
There’s only a few I remember, and it’s been maybe 30 years now since I read it. Damn, now I feel old!
I used to have a signed hardcover - DFW was friends with one of my undergrad creative writing professors, so we met him at a book reading - but my ex got it in the divorce. Which was only fair, since the cat was obviously staying with me. 😺

I *love* that book. I first read it in a Theory of the Novel class and wrote a 50-page paper on it (or I likely would never have been introduced to it). Just loveloveLOVED it.
I call it my "depression bible." I read it every 4 or years and am due for a re-reading.
The document includes photos taken from body-worn cameras but no video was released
If only there were some way of viewing multiple “photos” from this “video,” perhaps enough to see movement and determine what happened. Maybe in the future.
Per the six-fingered AI plagiarism robot, the color “Arctic Frost” is an icy pale blue. However, there is also a mandarin orange hybrid named Arctic Frost, and I guess that’s what Blackburn is claiming to be offended by.
I feel like the RWNJs are working extra hard to find evidence of their perceived persecution. See also “8647” seashells and whatever the hell Schmitt was attempting this week.
From your link*, the still image from the body cam proves Garces Perez's account
("The agents said that they turned on their lights to execute the stop, but in the same filing, Garces Perez told investigators that an unmarked SUV followed him and then abruptly cut him off on the side of the road.")
and also, we can see that the officer allegedly "struck in the torso" would have been struck in his thick heavy vesting, if he was struck at all.
In the former Soviet Union executions were carried out by having the handcuffed and shackled prisoner kneel in sound-deadened room with a floor drain and putting a pistol bullet into the back of the head. A bill for the bullet was then sent to the surviving family of the dead prisoner. I don't know if this is still done under Putin, but I suspect it is. I fear that as a nation we are heading in that direction, if not already there, only just doing it in the open and on the street over trivialities.
In the former Soviet Union, at least one head of the secret police was a serial child-rapist and sexual assaulter of teenage girls, an almost fairy-tale monster who lived in a distinctively coloured house in the capital city, where his abuses were well known.
One day he was tried and on a different day he was executed.
Not exactly a case of "justice delayed is justice denied", but close. People of privilege in that system could literally get away with murder until another person of even more privilege saw them as a liability. Then it was "buh-bye".
Well, I mean ... the people who are giving the orders for these things to happen want to BE Putin
and it didn't get this terrible all at once
ICE didn't even exist before 9-11
So the people I have the biggest problem with are the ones who pretended thos was totally fine and that the people installing this system were doing something completely legitimate and they shouted down those of us who tried to tell them the country would end up exactly where it is now ...
You know, I’m happy that a lot of the MAGA orcs are turning against Trump in the midterms, but they’re all fucking fine with this barbarity. It’s the fucking price of diesel that bothers them most.
Low-rent Sturmabteilung wilding out just as the millions who voted for America's Pilonidal Cyst—in order to disappear the minorities they don't like—wanted!
I did just read that they FINALLY removed the bullet from his back YESTERDAY.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/oct/02/man-shot-ice-texas-surgery
And THIS is just one story. How many Garces Perez are there that never get coverage? This corruption is off the charts.
OT and completely off tone as well BUT

Oooh, tabbed!
Yes! Sounds good. Keep going with this. :)
Thank you for sharing that. That is really interesting. I don't know much about Kafka's life.
Good luck with the writing!
Sooo... can you introduce me to your seester?
The trams in Hofbau still don't run on time, though.
That's because it's so difficult and dangerous to make the descent.

Pretty well sums it up. And cruelty is the point.
OT: "No More Changing of Clocks Act."
Imagine this stupid name. Right now in the Year of the Depend Adult Undergarment.
I have never understood why changing the clocks is such a big annoyance. Like, what happens? Why is it different in the US to in the rest of the world?
More importantly the act codifies the wrong time scheme.
He wants the golf tournament to not be in the dark in the last hour.
That has to be why he wants it done that way. He specifically complained about the golf.
Erect stadium lighting on golf courses. Problem solved.
Yep, they even managed to fuck that up : (
The Year of the Whopper was much better, IMO.
I’m fond of the Year of the Maytag Whisper-Quiet Dishwasher.
I also like that super long one about the printer, but I'm not even going to try to re-create it, LMAO!

frivolous lawsuit, you say? for a sitting Senator to file such a turd, there should be exceptional consequences.
Totally out of character coming from a Home Ec major.
mocking 'Trump's complexion'
This is illegal now? Oh, Marsha Marsha Marsha, I have bad news for you.
Sadly, I don’t think this will be the stupidest thing I read today.
I mean, this is an off-the-charts crazy lawsuit. That said, it’s before noon on a Friday, so I fully expect more stupidity before the day is done.

I just remember there were one or two big dents in HIS car, which I guess ICE made.
he maaaaaaybe hit one of them with his car mirror
Or, one of his clumsy ICE friends bumped into him, which I assume would bring the same blam blam blam response.
Or maybe they picked the flimsiest, lamest excuse to justify attempted murder.
It is a mystery!

No need for bullets under Putin. Novochok (nerve gas) and Polonium are free!
So are 3rd story windows
"Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,
But not express’d in fancy; rich, not gaudy", as Polonium said
The wisdom of the ages is ignored at your own peril.
hey, uh, that polonium ain't free, you know!
Also wear gloves when opening doors.
on the other hand less cruel than half-assed 'lethal' injection
At least we don't bill for the botched shots. No government should be authorized to take a life that does not pose an immediate threat to others.

There were plenty of "your next door neighbor " Biden voters complaining about the so-called "price of eggs"
And that's the part nobody wants to hear about or grapple with or even think about
The US equivalent of the "good Germans"
And that is why the country is where it is
A Good Egg?
And THAT is what bothers me the most about THEM.
Because they're suffering.

Nothing better for the stock market than a shitty jobs report. Almost as if capitalism thrives on human misery.
