Sadly, yes. We seem to have the same writing team this season as the guys in the 13th century who thought the Black Death and invasion by the Golden Horde would keep the audience on the edges of their seats.

I'm not the only one who saw that as Windmill every single time, right?

Wondering if the prohibition against “assisting abortion” for out of state patients applies to ppl who sell airline tickets, rental cars, bus drivers, bellmen, hotel operators, etc. This could get really complicated. Unintended consequences, y’all.

They will stamp there feet and hold their breaths and do whatever they can until everybody, everywhere, comes into their line of thinking. Well "believing" on their part, "thinking" on ours. And we won't, the result: Forever war, or instant defeat. I'm for 'B' of the above.

waiting for one of these talibangelical state legislatures to pass a Fugitive Gravida Law so bounty hunters can legally chase Idaho women all over the US. just a matter of time.

Expand full comment

I believe the Fugitive Slave Law was a federal law, though. I am not sure the states could legally do it.

Those places persist in coming up with obviously unconstitutional laws almost daily, and each little Hitler in their tinpot Reichstag imagines themselves able to foist their dictatorial ukases on everyone else. They persist in flinging this shit in the hope that some of it may stick. Being endorsed by their sky wizard gives these jerkwater ayatollahs delusions of their importance and ability to project their noisesome policies far beyond their borders.

Yep, I did not mean to imply they would not TRY it.

Entirely within the realm of possibilities.

(Man, I was so close to writing something similar, though not as well.)

" Idaho’s abortion ban is not especially popular with Idaho women, who are lighting out for the Washington Territory and other nearby free states to escape Gilead on the Snake River."

Call me when they stop voting republican.

Right? There are no words. "Arrrgh" is all I can think of.

Can I text you when the state stops gerrymandering and trying to ratf’ck Dem state primaries?

It would be really interesting to see how a a non-gerrymandered Idaho would vote...No doubt there is data on pure numbers...the exact number of people who vote dem vs who votes republican

Probably similar to other states with a few populous cities/college towns, a rural population that feels it’s “under attack”, and with residents who are mostly white.

So...Washington.

Medical service providers are fleeing the state and there's nothing Raul Labrador can do to retrieve them

How long until Idaho drives all medical providers out of the state? You're judging yourselves, Idaho, and you're getting a failing grade.

"As of yet, Idaho Gov. Brad Little has not erected checkpoints, razor wire, or floating buoys to dissuade Idahoans from traveling to free states for health care."

In his favor, Washington and Oregon will probably be happy to pay for the wall in this case.

"Idaho prohibits virtually all abortions, with strict exceptions for rape or incest (a police report must be filed"

How far ahead of my rape and/or incest do I have to file a police report so the abortion will be legal?

"Planned Parenthood and several Idaho medical providers sued in federal court, arguing that Labrador’s reading of the statute would stomp all over their free speech rights. "

Come on Planned Parenthood. Everyone knows that free speech only protects people when they are planning coups and to hang Mike Pence. It clearly doesn't protect doctors from giving out basic medical advice.

That pretty much says it.

Or phone numbers.

If medical providers didn't turn over the phone numbers of women seeking abortions, how would the cops or politicians know who the loose women they can hook up with are?

I'm picturing giant billboards just over the border (by maybe a few yards) boldly advertising abortion services (with websites and phone numbers) on I-84, I-90, and I-15....and a "pirate" radio station on the Nez Pierce reservation doing the same sort of thing....

Kinda like South of the Border or Buc-ees on the highway!!

I am proud to have voted for AG Bob Ferguson twice; the man is doing precisely what he has been hired by the people of Washington state to do.

And our doors and hearts remain OPEN to any Idaho sisters seeking necessary medical care in the city of Spokane. I DARE Raul Labrador to try to come after me for aiding and abetting American women to exercise their constitutionally protected rights.

Because everyone knows all kids have safe homes with parents who wouldn't beat the kid to death or possibly is himself the devil who forced himself on the poor kid.

Expand full comment

I genuinely, seriously have such a hard time understanding how forced-birth folks complain about any sort of social services that would help families in need. If someone does NOT want to have a child, why would someone force them to do so?

And yes, I know that it comes down to "don't fuck if you don't want to have a child ... for JESUS", but that is absurd through biology, psychology, and criminal behavior. An $XXX abortion of an unwanted blob of cells v. SO MUCH MONEY - through private or public funds -to raise a kid who wasn't wanted is just absurd.

No one should come into the world unwanted, let alone potentially despised or thoroughly neglected.

Not just $$ but pregnancy, as I am thankfully learning more about, I understand can be a very dangerous thing. Don't fuck? Everybody fucks and will continue fucking, if they are so blessed, so there will always be pregnancies. THEY even fuck I bet. These religious and morally "superior" arguments are simply specious distractions.

Expand full comment

It's all rooted in sperm worship, degrading the role role women play in pregnancy.

Expand full comment

Yes. Lucky for my dad & aunt, their father *did* want them, because their mother certainly didn't. Not that they were neglected or anything like that, but even her favorite child (aunt) could tell my grandmother would've preferred the child free life.

I can tell my parents would have preferred that. A kid can tell.

But then they all want marital rape to be legal and cool, which negates that "don't fuck" clause.

Oh, well, it's not cis-het *men* they apply the "don't fuck" rule to. It's only the rest of us who are supposed to be celibate.
