Idaho GOP Convention Pretty Much A Glorified Slap Fight, Really

So we guess the Idaho state GOP convention was held last weekend, and we are SO PISSED that Dok Zoom didn't go there on a fact-finding mission, because the entire thing sounds like an amazeballs shitshow. Near as we can figure, nothing got done, and no one got elected, there may or may not actually be any delegates left, and regular old Republicans and Tea Party Republicans are perhaps going to light each other on fire. Congrats at being the very best at sucking at participatory democracy, Idaho GOP!

You may recall that a few weeks back, Idaho held its GOP primary, and it was not a good time to be a Tea Partier, because they got fucking walloped by run-of-the-mill only 90% awful Republicans. Those regular Republicans should have remembered that the Tea Party does not forget a slight, probably because it is too busy actually forgetting a whole bunch of other things like math, science, and history, so something like last Saturday was really bound to happen.

The Idaho state GOP convention collapsed on Saturday as the presiding Republican U.S. congressman called a halt to the proceedings amid infighting and walk-outs by delegates.

Saying the party had hit “rock bottom,” 1st District Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador adjourned the convention without electing a chairman, establishing a platform or completing any of its scheduled business [...]

The three-day convention dissolved into acrimony as various factions representing the Tea Party and the libertarian wing battled over unseating delegates.

This only gets funnier when you remember that Raul Labrador wants to be the next Majority Leader now that the mighty Eric Cantor is out.

Labrador has billed himself as the candidate who can facilitate unity between House leaders and the tea party, but he faces long odds against House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who started rounding up support among republicans last Wednesday.

Just imagine how the entire House will be enhanced by some of Labrador's can't-do spirit. We can expect more episodes like this. 

When the 15 people selected to represent Bannock County arrived in Moscow, eight other county residents were already at the convention claiming the delegate selection process in Bannock County was flawed. Similar challenges were filed against the Ada County Republicans and its delegation [...] When the dust settled, Bannock County's entire delegation had been unseated.

No one from an entire county seated. No new chairman. No new platform. No anything, basically. Quite a nice and super-functional political party you've got there, Idaho GOP.

Believe us when we say that we are fans of any parliamentary maneuvers that result in this sort of Republican gridlock. We will always cheer a Republican civil war, partially because it could benefit us, but mostly because it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people. Never say die, never surrender, and hopefully never get elected.
