This is the Manchin/Sinema effect. Low wages are bullshit...and it's a bit elitist to assume that "burger-flippers" don't deserve a living wage, is it not? EVERY JOB IS IMPORTANT. Honestly...

"Republicans are acting like they believe the future of their control of the country is at stake." There, fixed that for you, Yglesias.

Nothing new. "Moderate Republicans" have been saying Democrats should be GOP lite for years. This might have worked for Bill Clinton, but led the party to the wilderness for years.

Not the same ratio. Having 1 or 2 misfits is not the same as having 50 assholes.

I've blocked Yglesias on Twitter and am much happier for it.

I once told my vice principal that the principal was a stupid ass. Turns out he was sleeping with her! That was my last year teaching in public schools. Oops.

Hi,

It's clear that the fix is in - on all sides - to undermine our democracy by suppressing voting. The latest is the Daily Beast who ran a horrible editorial by Cathy Young to explain why liberals are wrong about teaching racial justice in schools. I'm still so PO'd I can barely keep from throwing something. Here was my letter to the editor of the Daily Beast.

Editor of the DB,

You let a hack from the Cato Institute, which is funded by the Koch brothers, write an editorial that “liberals need to confront some of the more problematic aspects of “antiracist” doctrine” in yourpaper. Seriously, who are you The New York Times? I will cancel and continue getting my news from The Guardian.

The Guardian points out that one of the leaders of Parents Defending Education (PDE) was a former Cato Institute member, who is now focused on targeting critical race theory. Here’s a quote:

PDE, which has also railed against critical race theory, even tells parents they should spy on teachers’ online activity to seek incriminating material. “Look at the social media pages of teachers and administrators at your school. They are often quite proud of what they’re doing and sometimes post incriminating statements or materials,” PDE’s website says.

You can read the entire article to see what decent reporting looks like (link below). It’s very difficult to fight systemic racism as it stands, but to fight against deep pockets like the Cato Institute is making it nearly impossible. The fact that you gave breath to Ms. Young’s employer is beyond disgusting. To gaslight your readers that you’re providing some nuanced editorial is horrifying.

Republicans can stop giving we Democrats advice. Put in terms they might understand:

“the top issue for voters is the economy.”

And voters want someone who will "do something."

I guess the infrastructure bill had nothing to do with jobs and the economy, even though it entails what I last heard was several billion dollars worth of economic activity? Weird. Must be that new math or something...

It MIGHT be preferable to a violent MAGA tyranny, but it's NOT the goal of the Dems (or most Americans, for that matter). It's our fall back position should we fail utterly at preserving democracy.
