I like that you are so technical! I was referring more to the gold bugs that think that gold has a value that a dollar doesn't. I mean, technically, everything has a value. Marijuana has a huge value, but it's a weed that's easy to grow, but that's expensive because it's illegal. I just get a kick out of people who watch Glenn Beck or Fox News thinking that when the economy collapses, gold will still have a value. Stephen Colbert used to say that women and goats would be the new commodities. I think that's more plausible than thinking gold has any real worth as currency.
Oh I definitely agree that the gold bugs are full of it. If you look at its historical price, it goes up when people are worried... It was over $2000/oz in 1980, but less than $400 before 9/11.
If you remove the hoarders and speculators and end-times types, it has a value for applications where it is really needed, and that value for the last 100 years is ~a few hundred dollars an ounce.
It's also a shitty investment. It earns no interest nor dividends, and you only make money if the weirdos manage to drive up the price over what you paid for it.
Do you remember when the Hunt brother tried to corner the silver market in the 1070s? They were the Koch brothers of their era, but with more charm and sparkle.

Sawzall, tile saw, chop saw, table saw, Rockwell, drills, hammerdrill, etc...We are kindred spirits in building and destroying stuff!

That retro porn 'stache was the giveaway...
I misread it as "Lord of the Flies," which definitely did stick with me.
Ew.
Ha, yeah that one would. Kill the pig, also.
Try yellowcake, that way it can be both!
Damn, I was an extra in that movie at the tender age of thirteen. No joke.
