Not as neat as the evangelical trick of being "saved." Because being saved is forever. Once you are immersed baptized in adulthood and "accept babby jeebus into your heart," you are saved FOREVER. No matter what horrific sins you commit afterward, you are still saved forever and will sit at the right hand of your imaginary sky friend and tell stories of the babies you raped and the ni**ers you tortured and the drinking water reservoirs you poisoned .... because you are SAVED.

I am one of the saved, even though I rejected that shit about a year later when I realized what a scam it is.

And the real untaxed money isn't with the Catholics, it's with the evangelical grifters. Go after them first.

Thanks for the correction.

Me too. They have no business being there.

No it would not because not all churches are involved with politics. The JWs and Amish and 7th Day Adventists, for example, are never involved in it.

This is so stupid and cruel. Holy Communion is the bedrock sacrament. To a Catholic, it is not a symbol, it is essential. As Flannery O'Connor said, "We'll, if it's just a symbol, to he'll with it!"

This could be full-on schismatic.

It's not just the church in the US that has gone bonkers...

It was only a matter of time. Time, until religious operatives started carving out constitutional protections for one bigotry or another that would fireproof them against charges of religious bigotry(!) We are this close, friends. This fucking close.

I think most churches that are actually in it for the good of the people (assumes evidence not presented) probably won't be too concerned with paying taxes where as the prosperity gospel and regular grifting religious organization will howl like a hit dog .

I believe the right to body autonomy is a tenet of the satanic temple. not sure if they have tax exemption or not.

That makes the Satanic Temple a god amongst its peers.

Not that I'm necessarily a good judge of such things or the final word on it or anything, but driveline sounds like you're Episcopalianing right. Good personing right, also too.

I can unfortunately explain that. First, anyone can join the Catholic Church. Second, the stuff you did before you converted doesn't really count, because you weren't a Catholic at the time. He also got his second marriage annulled by the Catholic Church who approved it because his second wife was previously married and had not had her previous marriage annulled because she wasn't Catholic, so as far as the Church was concerned, the marriage never really happened.

That's what they say, anyway, but it's bullshit. The fact is, you can get away with most things in the Catholic Church if you've got enough money. Like, my great aunt paid off a church to marry my parents despite the fact that my mom could not physically bring herself to say she wouldn't take birth control. (They did it for their parents, who it turned out didn't even care either way)
