Rather ironic that Gov. Haley of South Carolina is so adamant about flying the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. Especially when her state had it's own preferred standard during that era, the <a href="http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-V1Sd5fFoKKQ\/T4Xt28T8YcI\/AAAAAAAAG2M\/gtscwoNrzB8\/s1600\/530px-SC-SovFlag.svg.png" target="_blank">Secessionist Palmetto flag.</a> So Sheheen might have asked why Nikki Haley hated South Carolina.

Forget racism, forget slavery, forget economic development. The Confederate flag is treasonous. It is the flag of treason. It is the opposite of patriotic.

Assholes who want to, can put it on their front lawn, along with the Nazi flag and the flag of North Vietnam, because that's how free speech rolls. But get it the fuck off the statehouse.

It dates back to the 1970s, when the federal government mandated that people should not be warehoused in psychiatric facilities. Many states used that as an excuse to toss a lot of unstable and vulnerable people onto the street to fend for themselves. And in the case of SC, a whole state legislature.

I lobbied NY State to put General Sherman on our state flag, to go with his <a href="https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/8\/7389\/12678074904_d64bc61095_z.jpg" target="_blank">Golden Statue</a> in Central Park. Unfortunately, the state legislature may be completely dysfunctional, but they're not batshit frothing rabid hatemongers bent on promoting fear, anger, and discord, so they said no.
