As you said, Bernie's numbers have no basis outside of Vermont in this poll. He always gets a low to mid 60% approval number from Vermont voters. As usual the Bros ignore that every Senator gets the same 0-100 score. So both or neither in a state can have over or under 50% as it does not have to add up to 100%. They also ignore that there are 28 cities in this country that gave a population bigger than Vermont, with several of them having more the 10 times the total population of Vermont. So while it's wonderful that he gets 64% of polled voters in VT, it means fuck all on a larger scale.
My conclusion is that they are either stupid and fail to read past the headline or they are just lying and hope that anyone else either dues not read their cite or comes to the bad conclusion they try to set up. I don't really see a third option. Mostly I figure they are just fucking dumb.
I'd focus on the domestic right-wing smears going back a long way. The Russians picked it up and echoed it, but there was plenty going on without them.
